Pandora is free because is ad supported. When you are in your desktop, they can bombard the page with ads and that is why is free. Even on pandora.com you will need to pay $36 a year for an ad free experience, which is the same $3 a month sprint is charging, i'm guessing there are no ads in the pandora's version for the instinct...

I see your argument however, At&t with Iphone does not charge anything and their app does not have any ads.  I still feel that we are getting ripped off.  I enjoy Pandora so much that I would have made a donation anyways but not now.

Totally agree with you... but maybe ATT has a some sort of arrangement with Pandora Media. And their customers see it by having a higher plan price. It actually works out well for ATT, its like if all iPhone customers are paying for the service, but I'm sure not all of them know or use pandora. But yes, i think if should be free for us too!  Angry I'm a fair person and like to get/give the same piece of pie to everyone involved!   angel

Look for the FAQ on pandora, the iphone sample app is free, after that it's $8.99 a month. So we're actually getting it cheaper, also your monthly charge will work on the pc too. Smiley It's worth the $3 a month, they just have to fix the volume issue and give it the ability to run in the backround.

The volume does suck.  Also running in the background would be nice.  You cannot leave Pandora for anything.  If you hit any other button, Pandora will ask you whether you want to exit the app.

As for the cost on AT&T, this is just another example of AT&T prices.  What a rip off!  Of course, since I don't have AT&T, on my iPod Touch, I pay nothing for the application.  Of course it only works on wi-fi networks.  But that is fine for me.  I have wi-fi at home and all over my employer's campus.

About AT&T costs, I don't think it's free.  I do have free Pandora on my iPod Touch, but that's because it only works on wi-fi networks.  AT&T actually charges a whole lot more than Sprint for Pandora -- yet another example of the high costs of AT&T!  Here is a direct quote from the Pandora site about AT&T prices.  It's 3 times more expensive than on Sprint!

Q: How much does Pandora on AT&T cost?

Pandora on AT&T is available for an initial 5-day free trial (data charges may apply) - with no obligation to continue - and then costs $8.99 a month after that.

Anyone know if you can listen to stations from Yahoo Launchcast on the instinct?  I'd check it myself but Sprint STILL hasn't made good on their delivery promise and I don't have my phone.  Thanks!

I like the app a lot. I've only used pandora a few times before. but i think ill be using this app a lot. I am always down to hear new music that is of my taste. I really like that it tells you why that song was chosen also. i wish it had a better keyboard tho and that it showed the instinct info bar at top so you could know your signal strength and battery life while in app. all in all i give it a 7/10. I'm just glad that companies are finally seeing that a lot of people have the instinct and that it can be beneficial to them to port an app over for us!

I just wrote to Pandora support because my wife and I both grabbed Pandora and signed up for a subscription and then found the volume control is all fudged up.  Most of the time I have to exit pandora, go to the music player and play an MP3, crank the volume, then go back to Pandora so it's audible.

Even when I get it at the highest volume level it still doesn't seem to be half of what the MP3 player or Sprint tv/radio outputs.

It so low that my stereo system has to be at MAX volume to make the sound loud enough to listed to the music at a comfortable level (room filling sound).

Anyone else notice the volume difference between Pandora and MP3's and Sprint TV/Radio?  Or I should as, is it driving anyone else batty?

Volume is lower on Pandora no doubt...
Sometimes it sounds even lower than the previous time..Craziness Shocked

Edited:  To fix the lower sound ( if it was louder the previous time ) just cycle the power on the phone, seems to help alittle.

Edited Edited:  Setting your music stations on your PC carries over to the phone, I found it easier this way....

Not seeing launchcast in the app section, nor on the yahoo front page on the web ( on the phone ) in fact, that whole left section on yahoo doesn't even show up unless your in privacy mode...then good luck getting the page to load up all the way...
Haven't keyword searched it, but I wouldn't hold my breath getting it to work unless they release an app or enable our browser to do more

no, it doesn't work.  java will not support it.  probly another way for sprint to profit and charge more for the service.

Ok maybe I'm missing it but once you install Pandora how do you launch it?  Right now I'm having to browse to Pandora.com each time and 're-download' the app.  It then asks if I want to overwrite or Launch the existing one.  Is there something I'm missing here?

Do you come to a screen that asks if you have an existing account?  You can then enter your user name and password.

Oh I can log in but I mean is there an easier way to launch the application itself?  Since it downloads something I thought there might be a way to launch it from one of my menus, like the MP3 Player, TV, etc.

As I was saying right now the only way I can figure out how to launch it is to:
1) Open Web browser
2) Go to pandora.com
3) It asks if I want a trial account or member account.
4) I click trial and it starts to download Pandora
5) It finds I've already downloaded it, asks me if I want to Reinstall / Use Current / Delete
6) I click Use Current and it launches.

At this point I don't have to login since I've already logged in previously.  Hope that makes it a bit clearer.
