Greetings,

I am getting an error that the maximum number of songs has been exceeded when the music player scans the card for music.  This is with only 100 songs on the card.  Is this a limitation of the players total capacity, or capacity to add new songs at once.

This happens to me sometimes as well, even though I am far below the capacity. It happens randomly and once I try again a few times, it loads correctly. Must be a software glitch that needs to be worked out.

Problem has been solved.  The issue is that the songs were in wma format, the default for ripping the CDs using the Sprint media manager. I changed the settings so that they were in mp3 format and everything works fine.  Would be nice if the included software would ensure it is a compatable format before transferring.

I am having the same problem.  I just purchased a 8gb microSD card and loaded about 550 mp3's on it.  Put it in the phone and I get the maximum number of songs exceeded message.  I have checked the card, all the songs are mp3's, I have reset the phone, nothing still have the problem.  I have also emailed Samsung support, but they have been less than helpful.

My question:
I have purchased a 8gb microSD card and I loaded some mp3's onto it.  I have approx. 540 mp3's loaded and the phone is giving me a error say that 'the maximum number of songs has been exceeded'  What is the max?  All of my songs are mp3's, not wma, or the like.  Please advise..

Here's what their response:
Thank you for your inquiry. The maximum numbers of songs will be determined by the size of each file.

Wow, thanks for the help Samsung...  I have asked if they could elaborate a little for me, so we will see what they say...

Try taking all the songs off then add songs 50 by 50 and scan in between.

Maybe the instinct is too lazy to scan that many at once.  Grin

Just a heads up for anyone else who is having that problem... It seems to be caused by having wma files on the memory card.

I tried using the samsung manager program when syncing my music, but if there was any wma files, I got this error. So then I tried not using the manager and just putting the files in the music folder myself. But my music is lossless and the instinct doesn't seem to support lossless wma at all (not to mention I don't that big of files on my phone, thats what conversion is for!)

Try using windows media player to do you music syncing. Works like a charm and no more error messages for me!

I have been slowly updating mu instinct's music library and it seems that the max is 228 songs. Can anyone confirm if they have more than 228 songs without any errors Huh?

I agree but For some reason its stopping at 228 and its giving me the annoying message "Maxi numbers of  songs exceeded" I even deleted all my songs and synced it w/ sprint media manager. That still resulted the same out come.

[Note: all my songs are in the M4A format] ---> could that be a reason?Huh? I will try to put it back to the mp3 format and see what happens  Huh?

Simple math, 50 goes into 100 less that 5 goes into 100.  Smaller file size means more songs...

Huh? Huh? Huh? Huh? I still have plenty of space on my card. I am only using 1gb of music
What does the simple math relate to Huh? Huh? Huh?
If I were running out of space that would be an obvious factor, however, space is not my issue. My phone will not recognize more than 228 songs.
