Does anyone know HOW TO get shoutcast internet radio to work on their Instincts?

Sprints radio kinda sucks. There is not many stations of the different types on genre to choose from. Plus, the stream sucks. To be honest, I think they make the stream suck and make it sound like it cuts in and out from time to time to get you to buy the radio subscription because I can stream high quality music with ORB on my phone no problem. Perfect sounding, no cutting out.

So yeah, if anyone knows how to get shoutcast radio to work on the Instinct, or even knows of a 3rd party program for it. Please let me know.

Thanks

Ok, first off, I assume you have ORB setup and fully understand how to use ORB on your phone?  If not, read CAREFULLY here

http://www.instinct-samsung.com/third-party-instinct-software/all-about-orb/

This will apply to ANY internet radio station that you can get the URL to. Should work for ANY shoutcast, and ANY station that will give you a direct link to.

I could not find HOT108 on shoutcast, but I did find there site, and at the top left they have links to stream their station in multiple formats.  I choose the WMP, but any will work.

Load up the channel in winamp.  Double click the scrolling song title bar, and you will see the address of the stream.  Copy that to your clipboard.  For example, HOT108 was http://scfire-dtc-aa01.stream.aol.com:80/stream/1071?.wma

Now open up ORB 2.0 on your DESKTOP PC, and log in.  Click on OPEN APPLICATION, and choose "AUDIO"

From the selections at the left, choose "internet radio" you will see a bunch of pre-selected stations.

Now click on "favorite channels" within internet radio.

At the top middle of the screen, you will see "ADD CUSTOM" click it, add the name of the station, the exact address of the stream, and submit.  It will add this station to your favorites, so all you have to do is logon with your phone, click on internet radio and then favorites, and all the stations you add will show up here.

I have verified this will multiple shoutcast stations, one LIVE365 channel, and HOT108. Should work with ANY streaming radio station that will give you an exact link to their stream.

Here is the radi link I want to listen to on orb, once I click on the listen button, then a web browser page pops up and I can listen, so I copied that url. Orb will not play it. Here is teh link if someone else knows what the problem is let me know. Thanks http://theticket.com/listen.htm

Okay, I have a shoutcast station that is up and running occasionally, I listen to it thru my itunes program. So I got the stream url http://ss5.shoutcast.net:8262/listen.pls and created the custom link as mentioned above. However, when I click on it  on my pc it opens media player instead and says I need a codec, so I go to the orb codec site but there are no codecs for a .pls extension. Also, when I try it on my phone, I get the same message. Any ideas on how to fix this. Please note that this is a station that is up and down a lot, so even if you get it right they may not be playing music at that moment. Typically they are playing in the mid day and evening. Thanks

try registering as a developer on the sprint website, i did it and after i logged my phone number there and activated it, my orb started working. that may be the reason, i am not a developer either

That is a PLS file, which is a locater file, you will need to download the .pls file to your desktop or whatever on your computer, then open it up with notepad or something to get the direct address. It should be an IP address (or direct URL) followed by a port number, like this hard Rock/metal station:

http://purerockradio.servemp3.com:8016  (128k)
or
http://shoutcast.mr-host.com:8016  (128k)

http://purerockradio.servemp3.com:8054  (24k)
or
http://shoutcast.mr-host.com:8054  (24k)

Most will look something like this (fake):
http://90.180.25.200:8000

OK, I got another ORB trick that is DEFINITELY worthy of a cookie! Smiley

How to add AOL radio stations to orb!

First open Winamp and go to AOL Radio, which is under Online Services.
Then find your station and play it.
After the station starts playing, go to your Playlist Editor (top-right corner).
If your Editor is not there, go to the View menu and select Playlist Editor.
In the Playlist Editor, right-click item 1, and select Playlist entry.
The window that opens up shows the playlist entry and its main purpose is for editing.
What you will do is copy that entry (highlight, right-click, copy).
Then on your Orb Internet Radio page, Select Add Custom (top of web page), and paste the entry in the Path section.
Give your station a name and Submit. That is it.

This is HUGE for me!  Being able to import shoutcast stations is nice, but AOL radio has some really good stuff that you cant find anywhere else!  Like Korn/Metallica/Slayer radio!  HELL YEA!

all those bands are on that pure rock radio station and they have an auto-request, so you can pick what you want to hear with the samsung browser, then fire up orb, and usually, within 20-30 minutes your song plays...even at 3 in the morning.

I use this one http://purerockradio.servemp3.com:8016

they have all the newest stuff too, like the new manson, metallica, stratovarius, heaven & hell, tim ripper owens, but I also found a ton of the bands you mentioned in the request section. You should sign up for a free account on your computer first though, because you need to login first to request, but i've been listening in my car to them and its pretty sweet hearing metal and hard rock radio on my instinct! ORB rocks!
