looking back, the trip with the instinct has not been well at all. sprint failed on all grounds to deliver. it seems that every update sent was a package of disappointment, one after the other. and instead of spending those 100 million dollars to improve the OS, they blow it on ads that bulls*** about how much better the instinct is than the iphone. now here comes the instinct hd, few beefed up specs, half-arsed interface improvements, nothing special. now i'm psyched to go for something new, that also doesn't include the iphone, so i've set my sights on the hero, but i'm still worried that even a good phone as that could be f***ed up by sprint. btw here's the latest sights on the instinct hd: http://www.phonearena.com/htmls/Exclusive-images-of-the-Samsung-Instinct-HD-article-a_6628.html

As far as the HD goes....I am quite certain that this one is worthy of the hype the original received. If the original had been last year what the HD is today, it might have possibly been a true iphone competitor. The problem still remains that Sprint will be in charge of the updates/enhancements which probably is a good reason for many to overlook the HD for a different handset.
As for the Hero and the InstinctQ, since they are Android, Sprint will have no hand in updates for these phones, just as Sprint has no hand in updates for the Pre. So, if updates (or the lack of "functional" updates) are your only concern for Hero and Q then rest assured.....one of these is the phone for you.

yes the Istinct HD does seem to be a step up but like you said if its in sprint hands for updates and apps it could cause others to look the other way, thats one reason why i have my eyes on the HTC HERO just the whole Android and customization i'm liking..

I really don't like the chin on the hero if it wasn't for the chin it might peak my interest. Even though Sprint is going to be in charge of updates the HD might actually be a very good phone with Sprint bleeding customers they might have to actually listen to the people. Samsung is more than likely be in charge of the application part because they have so many platforms to develop on.

but samsung hasn't brought enough innovation to the table to convince me either. at first glance they got me with the instinct, but looking at everything else they make if that's all they can do is HD and don't try to stand out from the other makers with something truly fresh, then i'm not interested anymore.
nice to hear the bit about the separate android updates.

I'm not trying to stand samsung out, but them and htc are the only ones that are bringing new innovative things to Sprint. I personally like what htc is doing for Sprint, they are bringing the android platform to the company in a fun way by bringing the Sense UI. Samsung is bringing a beefed up java platform and a basic android platform. I believe that both htc and samsung are trying to please everybody. In the real world you are not going to please everybody.
