So I recently upgraded my phone to an Instinct HD from my Moto Renegade.  Big difference, and so far I'm quite happy with it.  And I couldn't argue with the price (best buy had it at 90 for 2 year contract renewal, got it at that price and didn't even upgrade my contract Cheesy)

Problem is, I try to connect to my laptop and it won't find drivers for the phone.  XP comes up and recognizes that it is plugged in as a Samsung CDMA device, but won't find/install drivers even when told to connect to the internet.  The phone will show an option on occasion to either charge or transfer files.

So what can I do to fix this problem?  There were no software discs in the box when i bought the phone, so is there anywhere I can download the software/drivers needed?

My other question is this:  After reading the other threads on tethering the HD, there seems to be some debate as to whether or not it works.  Is it possible to connect this phone as a modem?  How can one do it?  Seeing as I am a college student, I could definitely use this feature to save myself a bit of money...would sure beat paying $45 a month for crappy wireless internet service that maxes out at 1Mb...

I'm having trouble getting my msl number with cdma workshop.  I keep getting an error saying phone ask for SPL number when I try and read it.  Any ideas guys?  The version of CDMA workshop I have is 2.7.  Would that be the problem?  Do I need a different version?

To tether the phone you will need the MSL, i harassed a guy at Sprint for about 20 minutes before he finally gave me mine. Follow the instructions in the following thread, it will take you back to the S30 tethering posts and get you the steps to get it done. I used QPST as suggested and not sure if it works with other programs.

As far as the drivers go, i have this problem too on the computer im on now and have seen a few others with this issue...Somone stated to simply get the drivers off of the Sprint site by using the drivers for the S30 Instinct.  I personally have not tried this as i have a laptop too and it connects fine to that computer and my computer at work which is running XP also. May want to try to get your XP fully updated as well if it isnt. Hope this helps.

I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.

Just a heads up for future reference for those with driver issues.  Once I took out the SD card and plugged the phone back in, the drivers automatically loaded.  I also downloaded and installed drivers that came with a tethering zip file I found and downloaded (was mentioned in another thread, zip came with QPST, CDMA Workshop, drivers, and a how to pdf)...

Still working on getting everything tethered though.  Gonna call sprint today and try and get my MSL number.

Well that was easy.  Called *2 from the phone and went through option 3 and option 6 to get a live person.  All I had to do was ask what my MSL number was and I told her it was because I was having trouble connecting the phone to my pc, and she gave it right up Smiley

Time to go try and tether now Smiley

So now I'm running into other issues.  I now have QPST recognizing the phone.  Problem is, I have no option for M.IP.  No arrow to scroll over, nothing.  The last option I have on the menu is for data.

I've tried using build 264, and build 301 of QPST.  Same problem with both.  Help?

I've had access to music store for all of one day, the 2 minutes for my V950 to boot is nothing compared to the 40 on the HD and other stuff too.

lol.

I managed to get the tethering setup stuff fixed in the phone.  i downloaded build 323 of qpst.  Still having trouble getting it to do PAM though

I even went so far as to pair it with my other laptop via bluetooth and enable the dial up modem as bluetooth function in the phone properties in XP, but still won't connect.  It'll enable the phone as a modem, but won't actually connect the 3G internets...
