Hmmmm. Suck.... So I had an Instinct HD that I returned in early November, liked the phone. Didnt like the bugs in the OS.  The Phone kept crashing and restarting when I'd be doing anything and would get a text message. I kept saying I'd have kept it if it was $150 or $175. But at $250 it was just to expensive. I went on to buy the Pixi and love it. Its everything I want in a phone except for a strong processor, and a suck camera. But my 30 days of trial time is up and now I see the HD being cheaper. That sucks. Cus if I didnt get a Pixi I'd probably have gone back to the HD.........Sigh.

oh, but as it is I made out ok. I took the $150 that I saved going from the Instinct HD to the Pixi and bought a $199 Acer netbook on black friday. So for only $50 more I have two toys instead of one, but I really miss the Instinct HDs camera.

Stopped by a Best Buy tonight because  I wanted to buy two Instinct HDs.  They only had one left in stock and a salesperson checked their inventory database and told me they wouldn't be ordering any additional HDs because it was going to be discontinued on 1/24/09.  He showed me the screenshots as he was checking his system and I saw it myself.  He began doing an online search to see if there was any information out there about the next phone to replace the HD and couldn't find anything.  Does anyone know what is supposed to replace the Instinct HD?

Thats very disappointing that it would be going discontinued so soon. It was a good phone, but just too expensive. Honestly it would have turned out much better if they had put android on it. Which is a pretty difficult thing for me to say being I have a G1 and a Pixi and webos is by far better than android. But I would have kept the IHD if it had android and the hardware set it currently does. Sucks for the Instinct line. Not only did the HD get priced into oblivion but the Instinct Q ended up being the Samsung Moment. Sad days for a name that sold so many phones.

I agree.  They finally have priced it right ($99.00 at best buy) but now have decided to discontinue it after only a four month life cycle.

I still think about this and am boggled. With the amount of money that went into the design of the IHD and the awesome hardware why would they dump it so fast? Maybe its just Best Buy Mobile that is dropping it early. Either way, Sprint would be stupid to let this thing die a horrible death at $250. Drop the price on this thing down to $150 and watch them fly out the door, sure theres probably low margins at $150 on them with that hardware set, but damn. Such a great phone priced out of competition. I hate it when stuff like this happens. It goes right against capitalism. They could have totally advertised this big if it was $150, the first HD recordable phone in the USA.... Big props, but the ball was dropped. I'm still feeling a little heartbroken for the IHD. Its like watching a good player get benched because there is someone on the team that plays that same position better than they do. Sad days....

Best Buy Mobile is probably dropping it early and replacing it with something that will sell better.  I am also puzzled by Sprint's decision to over price it at $250.  I know it has some exciting hardware features but that price is ridiculous.  I was able to buy one IHD afterall for $99 at Best Buy and I think it is a vast improvement over the original Instinct.  I also firmly believe it would definitely have been a big seller if it had an appropriate price point.  Hopefully this isn't the end of the model line because if the next generation Instinct makes  as many improvements over the IHD and is priced right, it would be one fantastic phone and a high volume seller for Sprint.
