There is file browser code in the PDAPdemo applet in the Sprint wireless toolkit.  Remember file browsing uses JSR 75 so you will need a signed app or an "unlocked" phone to run it.

Pretty much every app question on this board ends up with the same answer.. "requires signing".. sigh.

How cool would it be if signing an app were free..

I was hoping to get a certificate with the proceeds of donations, which I could then use to sign open-source (and maybe free) apps that use the file browser, calendar interface, media interface, GPS etc.  Unfortunately I'm only 3% of the way there.

How much does it cost to get a signed certificate KB? I bet if many people knew your goal and intentions then they would be much more willing to "donate". We have been asking for programs and if you are willing to do that then I would think the community would support you in that. I know I would. Also, if you explain what potential it would allow then people would be apt to help. Since we know that Sprint is sitting on programs why not pay you rather than Sprint.

So basically with over 10,000 members, if we each give half of a penny we will have it! Smiley Or if 50 people give 10 dollars etc etc. The point is KB, if you tell people that what you are trying to do, the community will definitely support it. As for supporting the programmers well that is definitely something else that should be considered. I'm just saying though, that if you want to make programs or if a group of people does, one look around the forum will show that the people are salivating for them and will support you.

This is not the appropriate place to ask that. If you want to illegally crack your phone then you are in the wrong place. Not to mention the fact that this thread has nothing to do with this. Poor first post.

Well, I don't want to make promises I can't keep, so until I've done some experimenting with the developer certificate, I wasn't going to say much.

The day will come (hopefully in our phone's lifetime) when the LCDUI fix is released, people start downloading MIDlets, and find out that they can't run them due to the "909" error because they used protected APIs.  Hopefully by then I'll know enough to be sure what I can and can't fix.

We're not exactly on topic either  Embarrassed    At some point I'll make a new post either here or in third-party apps discussing what can and can't be done without signing.

As far as "unlocking", maybe that was a bad choice of words, but if you search for _policy.txt, you will find info on how to let "any" app run.  That could be a dangerous thing to do, and Sprint could disable it at any time.

By calling it 'unlocking', you're suggesting that there are decent Instinct applications out there worth unlocking it for... Tongue

After "L-Day" (LCDUI fix day) there should be some.  Until then, only existing apps that are touch-aware and don't need a keyboard - which is a very limited set - or those that are written or hacked to use SIWL.

L-Day - I want to copyright that.  Tongue
