A Slide 2 Unlock is badly needed in my opinion, it's a pain to have to press and hold the software button.

I'm a designer, not a developer I've designed an interface for a S2ul app.  I'm not looking for money on this design, but I am looking for a coder/developer who would want to work with me to develop this app for everybody.

I'm also available and willing to design any other applications for the instinct that any of you builders may need and I'm willing to do it for no charge because I believe that we, as instinct owners, need more professionally looking apps.

If there is a developer that would like to work with me in creating some great looking and operational apps, please contact me so we can get some decent stuff for our phone!

Nek,  Hello and Welcome to the forum!

I'm wondering if you may have different ideas for how to design this app.  The Dev's that run the world, and in particular this site, cannot find a way to get into that functionality with the phone.  You're liable to have a bunch of folks telling you to "SEARCH" real soon because they like to do that.  This idea has been kicked around for well over a year and no one has had any success.

Again, it's a pleasure and enjoy! Smiley

I hear you, I guess I'm just letting dev's know that if they need any work on the design of their apps done, I'm happy to do design for the instinct for free, only because I want to help in getting some better apps out there for everybody...

As far as getting the s2ul working, it's my understanding that there isn't a way to do it because it requires access to the OS which we don't have, is that about right?  Is it the same thing for skinning the UI of the instinct as well?  Like, for instance, if I wanted to design a fresher looking interface than the stale gray that it currently features, is there not a way to do that?

Welcome to the site.  This is one of the oldest gripes on the instinct.  There are at least 30 something threads mentioning "slide to unlock".  The instinct is a year old now, and if it could have been done it would have.  But, in all actuality, it will never happen because that deals with the phones OS, which is not accessible.

That is a pretty picture, but that is all it will ever be.  Hopefully some of the devs will take you up on your offer - you do good work.

Again, welcome to the forum.

*there are "skins" available for the instinct that gives you some levels of customization.  KBUI is the most sophisticated of those.

*the lightbulb comes on*

OOooohhhhh, I just thought of a way to make his s2ul design work!

Set his pic as your background/screensaver and then when you want to unlock the phone, put your finger on the slide area and slide it over the screen to the right and then up onto the power button on top!

It has worked EVERY TIME for me so far...  Maybe it's because I haven't upgraded to CD17 yet...

LOL

instead of trying to build this into the OS, why doesn't somebody just make an app? It wouldn't be as easily accessible, sure, but I bet you could do some kind of pseudo-S2UL with a java app.

Sure, it would be easy, but you would have 2 choices:

1.  Leaving the phone/screen on all the time, killing battery life
2.  Using the power button on top to turn the phone on first, then slide to unlock.

Neither of these sounds like a good choice, and that's probably why nobody has done one.

You can't read the screen when the phone is sleeping (i.e. screen off) so a true slide to unlock is currently not possible.
