hey folks,

i've been having some problems using the restricted multimedia api.  i posted my problem to the sprint developer forum here, but haven't been able to solve it yet.

basically i'm trying to use the mic on the phone, but whenever i try to install the application on my phone i get a 910 error.  i can run the app in the emulator without incident (of course).  i've tried all sorts of things and just have no idea what i'm doing wrong.  an example project of what i'm working on can be downloaded from the sprint developer forum thread.

it's funny to think that, come late may with mr-6, i might not have to worry about these problems anymore (actually, i wonder if we'll still have to specify specific permissions in our apps).  just don't really want to wait.

any ideas would be appreciated.

- mjumbewu

P.S. even someone else with a developer root enabled trying to download the app (which i've attached) to their phone would be helpful -- as a sanity check.

It's not signed.  You still need to sign it using the WTK for it to work on dev-root-enabled phones.

Try this one - works nicely.

It will only work if the developer root is enabled on your Sprint phone (or maybe on a policy-hacked phone).

And, it won't work from Rumkin, as the jad file MUST be downloaded with it.  You have to use one of the uploaders like Sprint's that use both the jad and jar.

this time i got error 909 application authentication failure

so i guess the policy hack isn't enough will a version be released that won't need the dev root?

With the policy hack, you might be able to use the first set of files and get it to work.  However, this is really just a simple test to get the API working on a real phone; I'm sure the author has plans for a more sophisticated app.

On the S30 or the late-May MR-6 Instinct, you won't need the dev root to do these things.

KB, my goodness, thank you.  apparently i'm confused about how to sign my apps properly.  i coulda sworn i did, but i didn't.  maybe it's not working properly under wine.  maybe i need to reinstall my windows partition.  or maybe i'm just doing it wrong and need to figure out how to do it right (for now i'll just copy the certificate from the jad file you posted).  either way, thanks!

and, to gusbus, i would gladly release a version that works without the dev root, though i'm not sure what would be sufficient to make it run on a policy hacked phone.  i was resigned to make it a personal app for me, but seeing as they're unrestricting the apis (eventually) i plan to make it for expanded release.

you all rock Smiley

I just use the "utilities" choice, either from the WTK start menu or from within WTK itself, choose "sign application", pick the jad file and go.  Remember that certificate info will only work with that exact jar file; as soon as you make a change you need to redo the signing.

I had trouble at first too.  Now I always check the jad size - if it's shown as 1K or less, it's not signed.
