if they were, I'd think they would be plastered all over here. From what i've read, they only opened the development of the 3rd party apps today.

I thought its been open for a while but i have no idea when the contest concludes. But yeah it will be all over the board no reason to really ask.

According to the dev site at Sprint, this is the timeframe in which developers can submit their apps:

Register to the contest and submit your applications between July 16th, 2008 and August 29th, 2008.
https://developer.sprint.com/show_thread.do?forumId=378&searchBy2=MSG_PARENT_ID&searchValue2=-1&searchBy3=MSGFORUM_FORUMID&searchValue3=378&ps=10&pn=1&threadid=26096&sortDirection=0&sortCol=MSG_AUDIT_CREATE_DT

So it could be a bit before we see anything new. If, perhaps, the keyboard issue is resolved sooner rather than later, there will be some already existing apps potentially that the Instinct can run.

Lets not forget the I-phone users had to wait months and months for their apps.

We shouldn't expect anything till late this year (sept, october)

Right, but don't forget Sprint had that developer contest, I don't believe Apple had one.

True, Apple never had one, but several other companies like Gizmodo have had iPhone devoloper's contests.

No apps till after the Next Sprint/Samsung Update  and Rumor is as early as 8/8 But Before 8/29.
Too bad all the BETA people are under a ND agreement or we have the news. If I understand  the first one will fix the known bugs, the second is the key to the APPLICATIONS! That one is to be the MIDP 2.0 .

Confirmation? For 100% sure No.... But I did talk to a Developer working on several apps that require the java fix.... And why would they be doing this if its not in the works! He did show me a FileMaker database application (DEMO) he is developing  to work on the Instinct.

My Guess is  IN  August some time. The Sprint Contest Ends the 30th of August.  So I  the  New Instinct applications will be out after that. Also I kind think sprint will want  to get out the  MIDP So than the phone can run most of the applications already out. Here's a link to good list of Midp implementation....

https://developer.sprint.com/view_devices.do?device=79542

And yes , there is a problem with the Text Entry implementation on Instinct. Hoping for a
fix in the Aug OTA. And I Bet the Fix will be before the end of the contest.

well since the 3rd party apps are coming out in august does anyone know if and what the apps are going to be. Will sprint allow us to be able to customize the touch home screen to our liking because that would make the phone really good.

If I remember, the contest runs through the end of August for developers to submit. The contest ends in August -- that doesn't mean we'll see the apps right away. Sprint would still need time to review the apps, verify and sign them, etc.
