EDIT: Sorry, I didnt know where to post this, Move it if you wish.

Hey Everybody, Ive been making some apps for the instinct for some time, And i've been using a method to side loading apps onto the instinct  Cheesy Today ill share how to do it, this will require a data connection. but don't worry because it is less then a 1K byte.

First off, Go to:
http://rumkin.com/tools/sprint/jump.php
Enter the Jump Code: 3093148
Or Just download the jad and jar here:
http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=5b28586430dc9aead2db6fb9a8902bda

After Transfering to phone, your ready to load your apps.

Go into the dialer and dial, ##USB#
Then insert usb cable and Dial ##MSC#

Two drives will appear in on your computer, find the one thats not your memory card.
Enable Hidden Files and find the folder "jas" then "content"

Here are all the java apps on your phone, take a look at the ones ending in jad, Open them untill you see:
Code:
MIDlet-Name: SideLoader

MIDlet-Version: 1.0.3

MIDlet-Vendor: Xqtftqx

MIDlet-Icon: /icon.png

MIDlet-1: SideLoader, /icon.png, blank
MIDlet-Description: Application Side Loader

MIDlet-Jar-Size: 1817

MIDlet-Jar-URL: SideLoaderInstaller.jar

Content-Folder: Games

Content-ID: PCS606485

For Example,  This was in a file named 12.jad
Now Remember this number and delete the ones ending in jad & jar, (12.jad and 12.jar, NOTHING ELSE!)

Take the jad and the jar you want to put on the phone and rename to the numbers
for example,
You have Guitar_Hero_3.jar and Guitar_Hero_3.jad rename both to the number from above, (For me, 12.jar and 12.jad)

Unplug the phone and dial ##USB# Again

Now go to games and apps and selected the App , "SideLoader" With a Big X
Your app should now load, Have fun Smiley

More Stuff to come, and ill do a video.

So basically you install (via the standard OTA download method) an empty app, and then replace it with a real app using USB.  What are the benefits of this method over downloading the real app directly to the phone, for people with (nearly) unlimited data plans?

Mostly Because Downloading Large Apps OTA Is Very painful in a bad area, such as where i am. and there is a limit to the size (2mb, i think) this can bypass this. Also allows sending apps if offline.

Makes sense, when I'm not in a Power Vision area even email is slow.  Now if you could only automate it somehow...

Automation? Would Be Very Easy but very hard at the same time, as in, I run Linux. And most people use windows.  Making it hard for me to make a windows app, i could try whenever i had time. Simple Shows a easy way to enable MSC and Then scan all jads for the keyword "sideloading" and get the file name. And replace it.

Im also working on anthor idea where it takes a jar and reads the icon and manifest file and creates a empty one with a icon and tags and then you whould replace and keep information. Because, When a jar gets installed it takes the icon and Jad/Manifest file and installed, so therefore. if you use this, once its replaced. The icon and the title say the same.
