Hey everyone,
I was wondering if any of you had problems setting up email from comcast. It seems as soon as I try to add an account, it times out and the phone tells me it is unable to connect to the server. I checked it at home and comcast is fine and I have full reception. Thanks for any help...

If you are successful in setting up an email account there doesn't appear to be an easy way to access any other account once it is set.  I was hoping to be able to set up buttons for Gmail, Hotmail, and AOL but it looks like you only get one chance.

I have tried to setup a Road Runner e-mail account under Other for POP 3.  The account sets up and I can receive e-mail but cannot reply to the message.  When I reply, I am asked to enter my password again, which I do, and it goes back to the opened message screen.  Was on the phone with Sprint tech support for an hour and you're not going to believe this......the advanced tech support group of 12-15 techs has ONE Instinct phone to share among themselves for troubleshooting.  How ridiculous is that??!!  The tech had to wait a little while for the phone, got it for a short time and then had to pass it to another tech.  There's no way the tech could resolve my issue without drilling down into the menus to see how to fix this problem.  She was looking at the user guide, and it doesn't have any detailed information.  Anyone else having trouble creating a POP 3 account?

Do you have the server info correct for the incoming and outgoing mail servers?

Be sure that you have the right server info entered -- I just configured my POP3 RoadRunner.

You can verify your server info there. I'm happy to compare settings with you if your server info is right and it still won't work.

stormygal, thanks for the website info.  I checked the site and also checked settings on my Mogul, which I could reply to mesages using RR, and checked my home RR e-mail settings.   I am using the correct settings and can download e-mail, but still can't reply to messages.  Are you able to reply to e-mail?  I don't know why reply doesn't work on my phone.  Just got off the phone with tech support again and they don't know why I can't reply either.  What do you suggest?  Thank you so much for your help.

OK, I couldn't get a reply out with the account I had set up. I couldn't figure out where to change the server info once it was configured, so I deleted the whole account and am trying various things setting up a new one.  Found the answer with some posts by HTC Touch folks who also had this problem. Their solution is to enter the sprintpcs outgoing SMTP server info, specifying authorization and changing the username/pass that corresponds to their Sprint PCS mail account.

We're missing the section where it lets us enter the outgoing mail login info. I'm still digging for info, but at the moment it looks like we're stuck.  Undecided

On the outgoing server, did you by any chance make sure to turn on SMTP Auth?  I know that Roadrunner, needs secured logon for smtp.  Its an easy thing to over look, so i thought I would ask.

Yes, but that did not work either. Take a look at these posts from the HTC thread I referenced:

Very very few mail providers allow 'Relaying' - that is, sending email via SMTP when not on their network. Open relays invite abuse and spam. You can set up a Sprint PCS Mail account and use SMTP.sprintpcs.com for your outbound mail server, with the username and password you created for Sprint PCS Mail. Login to Sprint.com to set up your PCS Mail account.

Problem solved. Sprint tech support was very helpful. As noted above, you have to set up a SprintPCS email account. Then on your HTC Touch go into the setup area on your email account. Leave the incoming email set to your non SprintPCS account. For out going email, change to the SprintPCS SMTP server. Uncheck the box for "use same user name and password" Then type in your SprintPCS email user ID and password for the out going email. As far as the use SSL for outgoing email, I had to leave that box unchecked for mine to work.

==========
When configuring the outgoing server info on the Instinct for a POP 3, it does not give you the option to enter a different username/pass from what you entered initially

I missed that you wrote that, I know that when I had roadrunner my smtp was smtp-server.maine.rr.com  just change maine to what ever your region is.

I sure do. It just says unable to connect to server. Please check your connection and try again. (S7122)

I used both the smtp-server and smtp.sprintpcs server names in previous outgoing mailerver attempts and neither would let me reply to messages.  I've deleted and reloaded my email account at least 6-7 times and setup again using different scenarios.  I looked at my Mogul settings to see if anything is missing on the Instinct and there are missing functions.  Here's a list of the setup options for my Mogul:

Mogul setup:  (order of listing on phone)
Your name:
Account display name:
Incoming mail server:
Account type:
User name:
Password:
Save Password check box:  (Missing)
Outgoing mail (SMTP) mail server:
Requires authentications check box:  checked (select ON for the Instinct)
Outgoing server login:  (Missing) would use Sprint user name
Password:  (Missing) would use Sprint password
Save password box:  (MIssing) would check

It is obvious there are missing fields to make Instinct POP 3 email function properly.  Otherwise, what is the good of having POP 3 email on the Instinct if you can't reply to messages?  At this time, looks like POP 3 email is read-only.  Hopefully Sprint can do a firmware update to correct this as soon as possible.
