I really don't think that is possible on the instinct, since the camera lens is a piece of crap.(a way for samsung to make their products cheaper in production.)  I think the only thing you can do is zoom in and out on a picture that's already taken, but that doesn't do much help...

you can hold the Instinct closer to the object to zoom in, stand back further to zoom out.

...thereby making it the most flexible zoom feature out there. For even wider shots, actually walk away from the subject you're photographing. Cheesy

Either way, meaning either zooming the pic before or after would be the same thing. They're both the same feature called "Digital Zoom"

If you don't know what this is please pick up a plastic bag, stretch it, and then tell me if you can still read the label on the bag. Now think of doing this to your picture...can you still see your face? maybe your pixelated face. No phone should have zoom, there is no purpose.

I too looked for a zoom button when I got this phone and it took me about 1 sec to realize oh, the zoom feature is ALL me. From what I have seen, it is not at all uncommon for phones to not have a zoom or a flash.
