When I connect the Instinct to my PC, it shows up as a "Mass Storage Device".  When I try to activate Media Manager, the USB connection is dropped and it then shows up as a "Samsung USB Composite Device".  The activation fails and an error message says to unplug and replug the device.  This re-establishes the USB connection - as a mass storage device  - and the process repeats and I cannot activate MM.  How do I get XP to recognise the phone with the correct driver when plugged in initially?

I uninstalled the drivers and did a reinstall.  Now, the system no longer recognises the phone as a mass storage device but device manager shows it as a'Samsung USB Composite Device'.  However, the screen of the phone initially shows the 'connected to computer' screen for a few seconds and then the main screen.  Media manger now says that the phone is not connected when trying to activate.  Connection of the phone without the drivers installed just results in a request to install drivers. Any ideas?  At least when it was a mass stoage device, I could manually download to the drive but now that's gone.

I had that problem too.  I was too tired to keep fooling with it.  I am gonna try some stuff when I get home today.  I did see in another post that someone said if it all installs correctly, it should restart your PC automatically...maybe we did something wrong  Huh?

This might not even be on the same topic but I put the installation disc in and it's not letting me install anything. Other then that I love this phone. Any advise about this?

you have to check the boxes for each component you want to install... clicking on the components does nothing... skip the phone as modem box, it won't install anyway.

I still cannot get my computer to recognise the phone as a Mass Storage device.  Now when trying to install the phone, it recognises mobile modem then mm diagnostic serial port, then fails to complete hardware installation and will only recognise the phone as a Samsung USB composite device - useless.  I'm trying to install on XPSP3 professional.  Has anyone had success with the OS installation so I can eleiminate that as a cause of failure?

I have this configuration, and it is recognised as a mass storage device.  Have you transferred music to it via the Sprint Media Manager?  If not, try putting a song on it, then check in "my computer" for a drive... Hope it helps.

does anyone have a solution for the sprint media player activation problem? it keeps disconnecting my connection to the phone and saying: that the phone is not connected or there is no memory card in the phone. sprint's advanced tech service told me to reset my phone and that didn't work either. this sucks cause everything else on the phone is great.

I had to disable all other Modems listed in the Device Manager (other than the Samsung installed one) in order to get SMM to work.  Apparently it will try to use the other modems.

I've had nothing but problems out of Sprint media Manager from day one, so I uninstalled it. I just insert the memory card directly in the side of my laptop and transfer files with windows explorer. If you're interested in converting video files for use on the instinct, there are ways around that(and threads here that show you how).

I was having the same problem and had pretty much given up. Then I disabled any other modem, (other than the samsung one) and trying the connection again. Ever since then, I have been connecting without trouble and have been using Sprint Media Manager to transfer music, pics and videos. Hope that helps.  Cool

There is an update available (see below)

I had the same problem, but I installed the update, went to the device manager and found the USB driver that was not functioning, did a search for the update and allowed the updated driver to install.  After that, I had a couple of additional devices - one was the modem, the other is the "drive" - so to speak.

Reboot - and the Media Manager should work.

Good Luck!

I'm having similar trouble as well, but haven't rebooted yet, so that's what I'm gonna do right now...

Rebooted, and I'm all good  Grin

I realize that this is pretty old, but I know of this "big" common error.

1. Is your cell phone locked?

If you have a lock-code setup in your setting, you must unlock your cell-phone before plugging it in, I hope this helps some people.
