This tutorial will show any MAC user how to enable wifi sharing of your instincts data connection in order to allow multiple user data access via wifi. This tutorial uses the USB connection on your instinct, but it
will also work through bluetooth. For better speed i recommend connecting your instinct via USB. If you have already figured out how to use your phone as a modem skip to Part 2. I will be testing to find out how to do this on a PC as well but that will take a little more time.

                              - TUTORIAL - USE WIFI WITH YOUR INSTINCT

-------------- Part 1 - Setting up your Instinct as a Modem -------------------
First on your instinct go to your dialer

then enter ##332846368#

Enter your MSL where it says "Enter Current Code" and it will take you to the DEBUG MENU

Hit the Toggle NAI button on the bottom of the list. it should then show you two bottons:
On Modem NAI and Off Modem NAI. you want to select the Off Modem NAI button. then hit
done.

-------------- Part 2 - Sharing your 3G data connection via wifi ---------------
Now the fun begins. If have updated your instinct to the BH29 version you will need to
remove your memory card from your phone. to check if you have, on your phone go to
home->main->settings->general->phone information. then scroll down till you see
SW.MS.M800 BH29. if it says that then your set. if not then update your phone.
First, remove the microSD memory card from your phone and then plug your phone into
your computer. Then on your computer go into System Preferences. click on the network icon.

below the list on the left, there is a small button with a "+" sign on it

Click that and and it will present you with a pop up

Click on the Interface menu and select SAMSUNG CDMA Technologies

In the service name i chose Instinct PAM, but you can choose what ever you want. then
click ok

A new window should now pop up. In this window click the advanced button in the
bottom right corner.

it should bring you to a menu

in the first menu where it says vendor, change it to sprint

click ok and it will bring you back to the network preference pane.
once here, in the Telephone Number text field enter #777 and then click the Apply button
in the bottom right corner.

now click the Show All button in the top left corner of the window

and it will bring you back to the main System Preferences pane. From here, click on the
Sharing icon

this will bring you to the Sharing pane

now click where it says Internet Sharing in the list on the right hand side of the window so
that it is highlighted, the check box should NOT be checked at this time

now where it says Share Your Connection From select your phone from the menu

just below, in the list where it says To Computers Using, check the check box next to
AirPort

now go back to the list on the left where it says Internet Sharing and check the check box
beside it

you should get a pop up window, click the Start button

now at the top of the window you'll see a text field that says Computer Name, enter what
ever you want your new wifi network name to be and hit enter. I again will use Instinct PAM
to make it easy to remember.

now hit the Show All button again (top left corner) and select the Network icon again. now
if you whould like to be able to tell if you are connected without having to open system
preferences again, check the check box near the bottom where it says Show modem status
in menu bar. Then click on the Connect button.

now, back on your computer select your AirPort by click on it in the list on the left hand
side

now select the Network Name menu, i am not showing the menu itself for identification
purposes

on this menu select Create Network at the very bottom of the menu

In the Name text field enter the name that you assigned to your new wifi network. at this
point you may want to enable a password to protect your network. then click ok. You can
now close your System preferences window and test out your new wifi network.

Thats it! I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and i hope you enjoy your new everywhere wifi
network!

I am guessing the % of Mac users in this forum is not as big as PC users. I to am curious if this worked. Well. Will wait for the PC experiment.

I don't get it. I am a Mac user, and I have my Instinct set up to use PAM. Why would I want to set it up as WiFi? I have a data plan, I get online using Opra Mini, am I missing out? Is WiFi better/faster?

I am a newbie so maybe I just don't understand, but what does this little trick do?

My quess is that there are not many people who have a need to share a PAM connect.  If I were on a trip with family who didn't have a data connection maybe, but I would just let them use my PAM.

This is a two part tutorial.  First part is about setting up the instinct for pam with a mac.  The second part is about sharing your pam internet connection over your wifi network.  Let's say you also have a laptap or an ipaq that you'd like to access the internet from when you're watching tv.  It's not about getting wifi on the instinct.  For those of you who say you're a pc, first of all you're watching too many commericals, and secondly you can do the same thing with windows, or linux, or unix or whatever os your using.  just figure it out.  Or, you can pay me to do it for you.

You made me laugh when you said ppl are watching too many commercials. That's exactly what i thought of when i read the post too. But are you saying that i can follow the same "mac" instructions for my pc too?

No, not exactly.  I'm just clarifying what the OP was getting at with his post.  It seemed that some people thought this was about using wifi on the instinct.  The instinct doesn't have wifi.  Now, if you know what this thread is about, and you want to share your pam connection over your wifi network with a pc, then forget about what he's saying with the mac.  You have to figure out how to share your connection with windows, or whatever it is that your using.  To be quite honest, it's pretty easy to set up internet sharing with windows.  Once you get your pam connection going, then go into the network connections.  You'll see which one is serving up the internet.  It's been a while since I've done this, as I have a wireless router and my other computer is a laptop with wifi.  I think you'll have to create a bridge between your pam connection and the wifi adapter in network connections to get it to share.

It works... thanks for taking the time to share.  The PAM was most helpful as I am a newbie here.  When the Instinct first came out (i got it first day) i asked countless tech support reps on how to enable PAM.  They said it couldnt be done.  I see with the advent of a few updates and a workaround we have a solution!  The WiFi element is like someone else alluded to in that its a simple network.  I have a 08' MacBook Pro with 10.5.6.  I set my PAM up via Bluetooth.  The steps were slightly only slightly different for me but everything works fine.  For PC users its really more simple than the instructions seem.  Things get wordy when u try to be thorough.

An MSL number is a programming code unique to each individual phone. You can do the same thing on your PC as you can on a Mac (That's how I get online). Follow step one to set your phone up. I have attached an unlocker to find your phone's MSL number (Plug your phone to the computer via USB after removing the MSD card > open unlocker > go to setup > Go under each COM port link until it says that your phone is connected > click "read all" > Go under MAIN > Your MSL # is listed under the Security Code (SPC) in the white field). Use the CD that came with your Instinct to install the Mass USB driver or something like that (don't remember exactly what it was called) and then manually set-up a dial up internet connection via the SAMSUNG mobile modem. Use #777 as the number. Make sure that you have unlimited data before you use this function though, as it uses a LOT of data.

Here's a youtube video that shows it a little better: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJUAqhQa5YI
