Depending on your OS and configuration it may not automatically pop up. What do you mean that it doesn't work for you? Are you able to go into "My Computer" and open it up?

Auto-Play on my version of windows XP is active. I have connected devices like my digital camera and my external hard drive to my USB ports- all 10 of them. Not all at the same time but different ports on different days. I have tried connecting my Instinct to different usb ports. Auto-Play dosnt engage. The connection established between PC and cell phone is only a charging one.. not external storage device.

I have tried the MDM and MSC settings. I've tried pressing the Voice Command button. I've also tried switching my USB port settings. Nothing.

I know its not the cord- because it charges my phone
I know its not my computer- because i can connect my digital camera and external HD's

If the phone had a "connect to PC" setting then i would bet my money it was that. But from what i'm told that is only on the Canada phones.

I'll probably get a SD to USB adapter and do it that way. What a waste of USB cord.

Probably goes without saying, but if you're gonna buy a connector, remember it is a micro sd card.

The Chargeing cord is different from a Data cord.  You can charge with both but a Charging one only charges.I had one for my Nextels and it was labled as just that. I used it when traveling .

Maybe they had a batch of bad or mislabled cords

I was having this problem forever, and here's what you do to stop it. There's 2 ways of doing it. #2 worked with me, but #1 didn't but its different with different people.

1) When you are at the activate part and have to enter your email address, enter the one that is linked to your phone (to find that one out, on your phone go to Main>>Settings>>General>>Phone Information then scroll to the bottom to find the email address linked to your phone.

2) If #1 didn't work for you (like it didn't work for me), do what I did to make it work. Uninstall the version of Media Manager that you have on your computer. Go to here (<<click) and click More Details and then download. That is the latest version of the Media Manager. Afterwards, on your phone go to Main>>Settings>>General>>Update Data Profile. Once all of that is done try again. It should work. If not, on your phone also Update Software and Update PRL.

Tell me if this works.
