Here's a good converter... takes a sec to get used to , but works beautifully after converted using the settings on the first post of this forum.

If you still have the DVD with the multiple vob files, then you can use a dvd ripper whch can rip the DVD completly into an mp4.
I reccomend fairuse wizard. It costs money.
I have heard good things about handbrake dvd ripper though.

More info and link to download:
http://lifehacker.com/software/downloads/download-of-the-day--handbrake-dvd-ripper-152498.php

There is a good list of dvd rippers, free and shareware here:
http://lifehacker.com/380702/five-best-dvd-ripping-tools

If you already took out VOBs, use vobmerge.
http://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/downloads/showsoftware_vobmerge_108.html

Then you can convert the single vob into an mp4 using this:
http://www.keronsoft.com/mobilevideo-for-ipod-video-converter.html

If you already took out vobs and converted to mp4s, join them using
Open Video Joiner :http://www.321slideshow.com/mp4-joiner.htm

To get it customized for instinct(after converting to mp4 and not liking quality on instinct) you can use step by step instructions using Videora.

http://www.instinct-samsung.com/index.php/topic,1436.0.html

Good luck in your converting! Ask if you have more questions.

ok, what i did was, i followed the directions step by step on the root post for this topic. so i converted all 5 vob files into 5 mp4 files. all for the settings for the instinct. they all work wonderfully. quality is perfect, audio is perfect, everything. i just want to one single file rather than 5 multiples. i'm trying video joiner now. i'll let you know the status when it's done. in the meanwhile, would you like a discount code for invisibleSHIELD? it was just acquired fri 07-18-08. lemme know and thnx for the help/prompt reply!

For DVD's  I use anydvd and clonedvd mobile from slysoft.com
I used the setting for a ipod and set the screen size to 428x240 and letterbox zoom to none.
The movie fits the full screen unlike sprints software then i copy it to the media folder on the micro sd card.
Works great for me and it's easy just a few clicks on my mouse and its done.

*also off topic* lol. yep Duluth, GA and yes i have, alot moreso than in memphis. i often travel back and forth and dont see anywhere near as much advertising for the Instinct there as i do here. but in all fairness, i've seen more Instinct commercials there than i have iPhone 3G.

btw *back on topic* mp4 joiner didnt quite work for me but vobmerger was perfect and so i was able to convert 21 to mp4 format for Instinct. i'll upload it for whoever wants it when i get home from work. once again thnx for the info^^

I managed to convert my DVD copy of Transformers to MP4 and loaded it onto my 8GB MicroSD card.

I used MobiDVD which is a free program http://mobidvd.xulsoft.org/download.htm

I'm no expert at this stuff and I'm sure someone will come up with a more elegant and faster way of doing this... I will warn you though - the conversion is pretty darn slow.

I chose the following settings:
iPod video
video resolution: 640x360
video bitrate: 800 kbps (it seems most everyone is using 1000 kbps but I think I tried this on an earlier attempt and the video quality was a little jumpy).  I could be talking out of my @$$ though...
Audio quality: Normal

Output format: I think I put 3gp for this but the file is listed as an mp4 file??
Video quality: Normal
Audio quality: normal
resolution: 352 x 288
frame rate: 15 fps

The video is relatively smooth, but you can notice *very* subtle jumping every now and then.
I used the above video settings cause they seemed to just "fill" the screen a little better than 320x240.

Anyway, I'm pretty happy with the results so far. No obvious audio delay or misregistration yet.
And did I mention that the program is free?!?!  Gotta love that!

Best,
Chris

I had no problem transferring - took a bit long.  Plays on my Instinct but without sound.  Any ideas?  TIA

Have you checked if it played on the computer? Have you checked to make sure volume is on and at max on your instinct?

You may have turned OFF audio while changing audio settings.
