I am trying to watch a video from my phone on my PC, what player do I need or how can I convert the file to something else that can be played.

for some reason I can only get the video but not the sound when I try VLC, do I need some audio settings or something?

or you can use VLC Media Player - i think it's able to play most video formats.

My choice would be Media Player Classic downloaded with codecs from Free-codecs.com. Haven't found anything it won't play.
