I have been unable to connect to my PC via USB since the computer insists on not recognizing the phone as a USB Mass Storage Device but only as a Samsung USB Composite device.  Multiple installation/reinstallation of the Media Manager and drivers did not fix the problem.

However, I have now SOLVED my problem. Grin  I installed the Samsung PC Studio 3 and its drivers.  Altho this program does not recognize the phone as connected, the PC now recognized the phone as USB Mass Storage and therefore the phone looks like a disk drive in Windows Explorer.  Pictures, mp3's, whatever, can just be dragged and dropped into it and the evil Media Manager can be dispensed with.

Whatever drivers it installed worked and I am a happy camper again.

From day one, I never installed the MM program ... just installed the USB drivers and have been able to drag/drop from the beginning.

PC Studio 3.1.3 HA4.  The Instinct didn't connect but it did restore the capabity to use it as a USB disk drive which means I can just drag and drop and don't have to go through the MM.

Here's a strange point: the Playstation 3 recognizes the Instinct as a USB Mass Storage immediately. I need to get a new card reader or pcmcia usb card for my laptop so I had no way to load music onto my phone... Till i thought about it. Had my PS3 search for my laptop's media server, downloaded my mp3 collection to it and then plugged my phone up via usb to the ps3. Copied everything over that way. it did mess up some of the album grouping though.

You don't need a card reader if you connect the phone to the computer via the USB cable it comes with.

How did you install the USB drivers?  Where did you get them from?  My PC won't recognize my phone attached to it via USB cable.  Thanks!
