My mobile sync works well when I add a contact on Sprint's site, hit 'sync' and then it appears on my phone in seconds.   Meanwhile, I cannot get any of my contacts which I have entered on my instinct to upload to sprint's server.

Is there a setting or something I am missing?

Upload to Sprint.com finally started.  It is uploading my contacts to the site at a very slow pace.  About 3-4 contacts per day.  This will take 2 months at this pace.  Sprint's sever must be overloaded and will only allow access for a second or so a day per account.

28 uploaded contacts visible after 8 days.  I wonder if the contacts are stored on the server and are just slowly being made available for viewing and editing as access permits.

Turns out my phone was bad all along.  The visual voice mail quit working so they gave me a new phone.  Now all my contacts uploaded to Sprint's server on the first try.
