My local retail Sprint rep, who has his Instinct IN HAND, showed me some of the details.  One I found interesting and exclusive to the Instinct is "Mobile Sync".  This will allow you to upload your contacts to the sprint.com website, where you can add/delete/manage all your contact info, and will sync with the device automatically.  Currently, sprint offers a service called "Wireless Backup" for about $1.99/month, but this is supposed to be much better and FREE to Instinct owners.  I'm sure future sprint phones will have this, but will be new to the Instinct at release.

I think you have to transfer your contacts from your old phone to the Instinct at the store, "sync" to sprint's website.

Has anyone else heard of this or can confirm?  Pretty cool, especially when you have 500+ contacts.

Transfering/Backing Up contacts is very simple and very free with any phone that has bluetooth or a USB cable. Just use a program such as BitPim or any other phone tools software. Paying for such a simple procedure is companies way of squeezing every penny they can out of those who don't know better.

I am pretty sure that $1.99 per month is to store your contacts on Sprint's server.  That way, if you lose your phone or it gets really damaged, they have all of your contacts on their server and they can be saved.

Otherwise, the only way you can transfer your numbers is if your old phone still charges or you can do it through BlueTooth.

So that $1.99/mo. is for people who have REALLY important contacts and don't want to risk losing them in case their phone is lost/stolen/damaged beyond repair.

Mobilesync is the successor to wireless backup.  If there are any previous iDen Direct Connect users, they may have recalled a feature called Nextel Address book.  This is the sequel to it.  Better, faster, web based, able to import Outlook and spreadsheet based contact lists, group lists, etc.

Lets revive this thread and stir into a new direction....
Now that some of us have the phone who has been able to get the Mobile Sync feature working?
I have added all of my contacts to the web but when I click Sync nothing happens.
On the phone when I go to settings-->Mobile Sync I get "your mobile sync feature is being registered. this can take some time" message. Its been like that for a few hours now...Everything else is working fine.
Any similar experiences?

Yeah but mobile sync is much more convinient. You can manage contacts online..And its going to work for future phones for some time. So it's not a matter of how to get contacts on the phone (i can just bluetooth them from my old one) but more of why this feature isn't working one my new shiny top of the line phone
