After doing the QPST hack to enable tethering my computer no longer supports USB...

I go into the dialer and type the ##USB# and it shows it going back to the MSC mode.

Modem mode works great via USB but I can't transfer files. I'm trying to transfer a movie that's over 40MB and for some reason it just won't recognize or open it.

It doesn't show up in System properties or anything. I'm stumped. Other thumb drives work OK via USB.

I'm using Win XP Home SP2 (currently downloading service pack 3)

This is definately a problem with the instinct... I've tried it on 3 different computers.

The phone is not switching back to MSC mode even though it says it is.

When I plug the phone into another computer when in MSC mode it starts to install all the CDMA and Modem drivers... NOT the mass storage drive like it used to.

The only thing I've edited on this phone is the buffer length to 20, and the tethered NAI option (which I tried putting back).

My drive does NOT show up in Disk management, I've uninstalled all samsung drivers from my computer, I don't know what else to do.

I even searched and found somebody who installed Samsung PC Studio... it does not recognize the phone at all.

I can access CDMA Workshop and QPST because it IS stuck in modem mode... will not switch to mass storage.

When I plug in the phone the phone beeps twice as well as the PC indicating that a device is attached. Everytime I uninstall the software and drivers in the device manager and re-plug it back in it installs modem drivers.

Here's a video demonstration... sorry about splicing the vids together my camera only does short clips.

Hey but why would you want to enable the Phone as Modem the hard way when you can just type in on your keypad.

##debugmenu#, and then go put in your phones code, and go down to toggle NAI, and turn it on if its off.

Because I do not believe it is the "safest" way to enable tethering. The login information for tethering is still blank.... leading me to believe Sprint can "see" that you are tethering... compared to the "old" way (plus when I tethered it was before it was commonly known that you can do it via ##DEBUGMENU#

Don't worry about why I did it the way I did... that has nothing to do with why mass storage is not working.

Did you try and find the driver on your computer and delete it, and then plug the instinct back in so  it can install again, or try using a different usb port.

I had the same problem of it not going back to mass storage after toggling the ##USB# code.  Tried the above suggestion after setting it back to MSC and it worked like a charm.

Thanks Mexdude!!

I had the same problem. I was skeptical that just turning it off and removing the battery for a minute would help...but presto change-o it worked! Best of luck all!

quickly rt click and enable

need to be quick before it disables

Hey. Welcome to the forum.  Appreciate the contribution, but the last post was over 4 months ago.  You might want to try something more current.
