Sorry PhoneSpy, I think I misunderstood. I understand that permissions are no longer changable, since they are always allow, period. What about the install process opera attempts to access internet several ways, you usually get a internet permission request. What happens? No request, and success on the install step, or a request, but greyed out options? Hopefully Im clear, Im alittle apprehensive long explainations since I just cut my nails recently. =)

I do not get ANY TYPE OF REQUEST for access to anything once the policy hack is done.  Only thing that I have had to agree to is the TOS for OPERA itself.

Confirmed. When you perform the policy.txt modification permissions for Network Access are no longer necessary. In fact, if you check the settings for any of your programs that do use the network you will find that it pops up with the "No item to change" notification.

Can any canadian users confirm this as well? I know some of you were having problems with there being no "always allow" option.

I reset my phone before I tried installing with the USB, and I still got the 909/910 errors.  Also before I re-did the policy hack.

I'm still having problems with the "application unable tot access the restricted API" error.

I "erased" Opera mini.
I edited _policy.txt and uploaded it to the phone via Bitpim. (Re-downloaded it to verify that it wrote the correct file)
Tried once without a restart at this point and once with a restart.
Re-installed Opera mini from GetJar.com, but still get the "You should use the signed version.." warning and it won't let me access the memory card. (The restricted API error)
Tried once without a restart after reinstall and once with a restart.

Funny thing is, BlueFTP works just fine and can access the memory card without a problem.

Any other ideas?

Nevermind.  I dl'd Operamini directly from Operamini.com and now it works.  The file from getJar was 123kb and the one from Operamini was 124kb.

Word to the wise, if the program is freeware just download directly from the source. That way you'll get the one you need...getjar isn't always 100% reliable.

guys i need help
i DL'd QPST, and when i open it up, it asks for SPC (i assume is your MSL)

so i put in my MSL, and it goes to this.

but it says my phone is disconnected..
i have it plugged in through USB, and have even used other usb ports to see if that one was messed up (my comp has 4)
has anyone else experienced this?

P.S - My phone is stuck in mdm mode... could this be the problem?

For all of us without the _policy.txt modified on our phones will they ever release a signed version of opera for the instinct? I looked on operas website for an email address but could not find one.

Marleyely, you need to go into device manager (right click my computer, properties, harware, device manager, ports) to find out what port your phone is currently on. Once you know what port you're in go to Start, programs, QPST, QPST Configuration. Go to "add new port" and add the port your phone is currently on. Then reopen QPST and you should see your phone listed before you even put your msl in.
