So I ended up bricking my first instinct "exploring" and since I have the best buy protection plan there is no deductable...

anywho, this new one is acting a little funny.

I go from having 3 or 4 bars to 0 back and forth. My last instinct had good to very good reception where I'm at. It just keeps going back and forth between 0 and like 4 bars, no matter where I am.

My data speeds are not as fast as the old one either. I have not hacked this phone in any way other than the tethering on the PC.

As far as the signal indicator goes I have heard from several people (myself and my wife included) that the meter very erratic, and someone from the Sprint store backed this up, and went as far as saying that due to this, the signal meter isn't a very reliable judge of signal. If you ask me, that's kinda like an inaccurate gas gauge in your car, but I haven't had many issues with my service or dropping calls. So, as long as these things aren't happening, roll with it, and wait to see if it gets fixed then the update hits.
