Is your Samsung Instinct acting up?

http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/11/is-your-samsung-instinct-working-alright/

At first, we figured our Instinct here at Engadget HQ had just woken up on the wrong side of the bed, but we're now receiving a flood of tips from individuals nationwide having the same issues. Put simply, it seems that certain data services are thoroughly borked, with our Weather app being unable to refresh for at least the past 18 hours (some are reporting even longer). Additionally, we're hearing that folks are having to manually refresh their email and deal with all sorts of error messages when attempting to use any of the data services. So, what gives? Are you having data-related issues with your Instinct? C'mon Sprint, this is your best-selling EV-DO device of all time -- it'd be nice to have it working for the weekend. Oh, and great job showing all those angered iPhone 3G users that your network doesn't have issues, too.

I was having the same problem with email and weather and news. I decided to restart my instinct and have not had a problem since. Seem like something is getting stuck and the reboot fixed it. Might want to try a reboot for now and see what happens.

i think not being able to update the weather once in a while is far less substantial than bricking your 1st gen iphone or not being able to get your 3g iphone activated.  :-p

Anyone from Seattle having *this* problem? I put Seattle in as one of my weather points (I don't live there, but I hope to someday... don't ask), and the first time around, it'll update with Seattle weather, but if I hit the refresh button, it, for some reason, changes to Bothell, Washington. I don't care about Bothell, I wanna see Seattle. What's the dilly-yo?

I did try one thing that was suggested in the comments on this link and unfortunately there is another bug sprint needs to fix.  One of the people said to try and type "Witherspoon" in at the text message entry screen and the phone will freeze and sure enough it did freak out and freeze for a second then boot me out of the screen.  I don't personally plan to text anybody with that in the message but that should not be an issue for anybody wanting to.  Other than that any issues I've run across seem to be fixed by a quick reboot.  I'm enjoying the features this phone and service provide and I hope Sprint can gain some success with this phone and change the perceptions that so many people have about them...they have been pretty good for me since I signed on with them in 2001.

Are you entering the city name Seattle? Or doing it by zip? I previously had added Louisville to my Weather list -- it refreshed to Hillview, KY. I didn't care as I knew that was in the area and the weather would be close (I just mapped it because I drive through there to Nashville a lot). I looked up a zip code specific to Louisville and entered that -- upon refresh, it still says Louisville.

I tested with your Seattle situation. Just using city eventually makes it Bothell. When I used the zip 98107, Seattle stayed.

If I had to guess, Bothell is just a default weather station for the area (I did look it up on Google maps, it's not all THAT far from Seattle).

Hope that helps.

The city was, indeed, the culprit. I suppose I could've lived with the fact that Bothell is near Seattle, but it made me feel warm and toasty inside seeing Seattle, WA rather than Bothell, WA. Anyway, I swapped it out for a zip, and it seems to be workin just dandy now. Thanks again.
