GMail Auto-receive Error

ok, so i had to swap out my Instinct for the 5th time since my screen locked up yesterday (this is the 4th time that has happened since June). everything SEEMS to be ok with this new one, but when i configure my GMail it won't let me set up my auto-receive for. on my last Instinct, i NEVER had a problem with auto-receive...now i consistently get the following error:

"Unable to configure push email for this account. Please try again later by selecting "Auto-receive" from the Account Settings menu."

i updated the Instinct email client and added my GMail account AFTER the upgrade was done...same thing. any other ideas?
