Hey folks,

I got my Instinct yesterday and today I started playing with the music/video/picture synchronization software.  When you scan for your music, the media manager will begin looking for album covers and the like in the background.  However, it was doing other things as well, like editing my MP3 tags.  I'd say a good 60% of the time it completely got it wrong.

Apparently I listen to a lot of music that has ended up on compilations.  The media manager has no troubles rewriting the album information.  I can deal with that, but here's something else it does:  re-writes the song title information.  In a lot of cases it gave the track a title that didn't even match the song!

And here's the kicker:  it directly edits the MP3 metadata on the tracks, it does not keep its own database.  So I've now got hours of work ahead of me to go undo all the damage this software has done.

If you have not already done so, and your MP3 tags actually mean something to you, before you import anything, go to Preferences / Song Metadata Update... and set it to Manual!

Cheers,
-C

what type of o/s do you have, if you run windows click on the start menu then go to run click browse then go to the d: drive and it should say setup somewhere on the disc, click on that then ok, then you should be able to figure things out from there....

If you have XP x64 or Vista x64 then you are out of luck unless you download an evaluation copy of VMware Workstation and create a virtualized instance of Windows XP or the like.  You could then use VMware Player, which is free, to load your virtual instance of XP.

I just drag my mp3s from my PC music folder to the drive that appears when I insert my (micro)SD card into the PC.

Ive heard such bad experiences about the S Media manager, I doubt I will chance using it. Doesnt sound that user friendly.

I agree about the Sprint Media Manager. As we speak I am repairing my Itunes library. This software sucks. Fortunately I have almost all of my songs on CD so I can go directly from the CD and use a separate folder so I won't screw up my all m songs.

I am having trouble getting my songs to work.  I rip the CD with windows media player, then go to the start button, click documents, click music folder, drag the songs onto the folder that is on the phone and then they store on the music folder on the phone.

But when i go to music on my phone and try to play them, it never starts to play and it just goes through all my songs one at a time pretty quickly and never play.  Its pissing me off because I can't figure this out.  Do you have to use a special software or something.

Any help will be greatly appreciated

The same thing happens in i-Tunes.  Get Media Monkey or Music Match Jukebox.  Hell, i-Tunes will do it too, you just have to edit the tags manually.

Also, it could be a format problem such as your songs are listed artist_album_year or artist.album.year.  It sucks, but after having i-Tunes screw me over by retagging and remaining my songs, I went through and manually tagged all 80 gigs of my music.  Not in one sitting mind you, but over a few months.  It's beyond tedious and extremely annoying.
