Keyboard fix + Opera.  I would preferr they didnt really bother spending time updating the built in browser much (other than maybe the crashing).

The thing is, opera is 3rd party and the browser is what comes with the phone. So however many people have opera and think it is great, more rely on the built in browser and thus sprint will have to update it.

Probably half or more of the people that have this phone dont even know what operamini is...

They will update it, but to what extent.  To the point where it works as well as OM?  I doubt it (considering it's not really possible with the current setup because the instinct browser doesn't have the server optimization going on).

So people who aren't aware what OM is or don't care will miss out regardless of if the browser is updated or not.  I just don't want them to spend a lot of time updating the browser.  I'm not saying they won't.

I admit to having fallen behind in my reading of these forums, but what about the inability to submit anything javascript.  Cannot even twitter from this phone, via the web.

Are you sure?  I twitter fine on mine...whether it's through mobile twitter or the main site, through the phone.

In fact, very few sites for me have problems with the text input (though what it does after I input it is another matter)

Can someone give me a page where you have problems inputting text so I see what you're referring to?

When people are talking about the lack of text entry they are normally talking about that in regards to opera mini.

I'm all with you on that. I would rather them trash it entirely and make everyone use opera mini, because it IS that much better. I'm missing it from my katana dlx, but thats the only thing.

I disagree this browser isn't perfect but when it does load pages it does it more correctly then opera mini does at times. As this browser has a bit more java script capabilities. But still opera mini is awesome.

You would always have it as a backup (similar to PocketIE on WM, although PocketIE is a lot better than the instinct one currently) for compatibility reasons.

The compatibility isnt that great on the base browser though, even if it is more javascript compatible, which is the major problem.  I'm not really saying to trash it, but don't spend a ton of time and effort that could be put into the other apps when a free and very well fleshed out browser will exist after the midp2.0 fix.

The big thing is the browser crashing. If you just got your phone then give it a week or so. After that the browser seems to start crashing on a lot of different pages. You will know when its crashing as the lights will go off then on and then you will see your speed dial lists.

Just happened today.  had the phone about three weeks.  www.xkcd.com is crashing it for me. cleared my cache and other personal stuff, and it still happens.  The website was fine yesterday.  Locks up for ~20 seconds, then goes to speed dial.

here's hoping it gets updated, as today I ran across two updates on software for the phone.  I think the messaging programs got updated.  hopefully the webbrowser is next.  may try opera anyway.

i dont think you guys are getting the picture. sprint/ verizon rule over data services over any other provider. AND sprint gets beats verizon no doubt (i tried voyager and lg dare...personally we have more speed..) but if you guys go on phonedog.com and watch vids of instinct vs. iPhone it wil prove my point...my point being that our speeds are fastest around for interent and such, it is sadly the instinct itself that has the problem, it has(i dont want to say weak) a rather slow processor than alot of other smartphones out there. if INSTINCT were to have a better processor we could process these speeds on our sprint network better b/c god knows it cant get any faster than sprint. we all keep seeing these tests that we have faster internet with iphone. yes thats true, but iphone also has a more powerful processor so truth being we also lose there, so data transfer goes to sprint, but data processing goes to iphone. b/c you guys keep discussing that our phone isnt as fast as it should be, but sprint has done its part by providing servers and good quality data transfer on their end, it was sadly samsung that turned up short. and it bothers me that you guys keep blaming sprint for how slow it is, we rule over all in data and if at&t went bankrupt  tomorrow and we adopted iphone, bet you there would be no competition and we would truly be supreme. we all want updates for browser,( and btw im not rooting for iphone over instinct, i hate ppl that do and i love mine and would NEVER trade for one of those things) but truth is it may improve on less of the crashing and bugs, but it wont get much faster than it is now because of the PROCESSING POWER of the instinct. so stop pointing the finger at sprint  Smiley

P.S. heres link for video i was talking about..  http://www.phonedog.com/cell-phone-videos/instinct-vs-iphone-3g-web-and-speed-test.aspx

Well, they are using Sprint/Samsung without differentiating, but one of the two gave us a horrible browser.  Try Opera Mini 3.1 and you quickly see how slow the built in browser is, regardless of processor. Smiley

I keep hearing about how terrible the browser is.  Exactly what are the gripes?  It seems to be pretty good... better than IE  mobile that I've been using on my other phone.  The scrolling is very smooth, it's pretty fast, generally looks very good.

I suppose Flash support would be nice as would the ability to download.  What else??

I would actually be impressed with this browser if I had never used the safari browser on an iphone.  Once you see what a phone browser "can be" it's hard to forget.

Safari has it's caveats too.  I find Opera Mini 4.1 much, much faster than Safari and a bit easier to use (although OM isn't the most configurable browser).  They all have their pitfalls.

If they improve the rendering speed (which they said would be addressed soon), hopefully fix the high security sites issue sometime soon, fix the bookmarks issue, and allow saving from the browser it will be pretty decent.
