For anyone looking for places to test your bandwidth, here are a few sites I've found that work well on the Instinct...

http://www.nccw.net/speed-test/ (if you use Opera and the html keyboard which lacks a "-" go to www.nccw.net and click the "Broadband Speed Test" Link)

http://www.mobilespeedtest.com/

http://www.dslreports.com/mspeed/ (This one requires a lot of clicks and fails a lot, not recommended)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Post your results below...

So far my highest bandwidth has been on http://www.nccw.net/speed-test/ with Opera Mini 3.1 @ 3.2Mbit! On average I get between 1 and 2 Mbits with this browser.

For anyone wondering this was in East Aurora, Ny (A suberb of Buffalo, NY)

With the built in POS Sprint browser I normally get 100-500kbps.

Opera Mini does not download to your phone.  Running speed tests from it is effectively running speed tests from Opera's own web servers.  I think that could be considered cheating just a tiny bit.

Mine hit almost 400 kbps on the nccw.net test.

Where did you get this information from? Where would it download to and why?

Yea, that doesn't sound right. I got almost 1600 kbit/s earlier on opera mini, haven't checked that other site you posted because I can't get a good constant evdo signal @ work, but I'll try later.

Seen a couple of posters rave about how fast their instincts have connected at and wanted to see if it held true for everyone...

So, could you let me know:
1)  What's been your max connection speed?
2)  Your average connection speed
3)  Location

for me, it hasn't been that great:
1)  350kb/s
2)  240
3)  Chicago, IL

and yes, I've tried doing the home agent and buffer mods.

Mini technology

Opera's mobile software uses a remote server to pre-process Web pages before sending them to your phone. Web content is compressed to reduce the size of data transfers, enabling fast browsing experience at low costs even on simpler phones.

Opera Mini downloads the target page for you to their own intermediate servers, formats/preprocesses/compresses it and then sends the resulting page to your phone.

Opera Mobile is their fully featured mobile browser that really does everything client-side.  Opera Mini is so nice and fast because of the work that they do for you on the intermediate location, but you lose some features.
