The internet is something they need to work on. I am sure Samsung/Sprint are working on something as we speak. Give it time. The browser will get the job done. The EV-DO rev A works very fast. Even with a weak signal it will load up pretty quickly. I advise you keep the mobile mode. It works fine and the standard is just too slow for my liking.

In the long shot...Not the best, but it gets the job done so I am content. It is a wonderful phone. Yes it isn't an iPhone, but we all know its not. Its just a really cool, hi-tech phone that you will learn to love. My only complaint is that it needs more settings! Really is a great phone. You will love it. Smiley

Does anybody's internet speed seem to be slow? i recently had the htc touch from sprint and it seems that it has faster speeds even when in low service areas and it doesnt have EVDO rev A. is there any way to increase it?

Definately SLOW.

Not sure why they talk about SPEED?  My 8830 Blackberry was faster and I could actually login to sites.

The web browser is absolutely horrible!

Not sure what Sprint was thinking.   The e-mail is spotty and web sucks.  I guess they are banking on people just using it as a cool phone and not to rely on it for work.

If you know your MSL, you can greatly increase the performance of all your internet connected programs on the Instinct (as well as other Sprint phones that I've tried) by changing a couple of settings. Under ##data#, select buffer size, delete the 07 and replace it with 20. Then under advanced menu, change the slot index from 2 to 7. After this change you Instinct should restart itself. Upon restart, go to -->main --> setting --> general -->update data profile. Now try you internet browser, news, weather, sports, etc. There should be a noticable difference in speed and smoothness. This speed difference is noticable in vision and power vision service areas. Try it out and let me know your results. Later.

WOAH WOAH WOAH hold on.

I was confused by the first sentence. What's MSL? How do you get to those settings? Huh?

MSL is the the Master Subsidy Lock which is a code unique to each particular handset. Use to program the phone. That I have to tell you what it is isn't a good sigh ;-). Seriously, BE CAREFUL WHEN MODIFYING ANY OF THESE SETTINGS BECAUSE YOU COULD TURN YOUR PHONE INTO A USELESS BRICK. Make sure you know what you're doing if you modify something else. ##data# or #3282# is entered at the browser. Sorry for any typos. I'm posting this from my Instinct.

So are the settings you suggested above safe? the last thing I need is a bricked phone.

EDIT: So you enter ##data# in the web address of the browser on the instinct?

I've used them om four phones and i haven't bricked one yet. Works fine for me. I was talking about some of the other settings here and mainly some under some of the other programming menus. To get to the data menu, press the phone button, go to the dialer and enter ##data# or ##3282# to access.

I can get to the ##data# thing on the dialer, but how do I change the settings?  I don't see the "buffer size" listed.

It sounds like this thread needs to check out these two threads.

1) This tells you how to speed up all of your internet and internet related apps.
http://www.instinct-samsung.com/index.php/topic,1742.0.html

2) This tells you how to get your MSL if you don't have it (and Sprint doesn't feel like giving it to you).
http://www.instinct-samsung.com/index.php/topic,1837.0.html

I did this yesterday and it is awesome!

Float on over there and enjoy the Instinct as it should be.
