Compliments of our resident email guy bdroad who came back to visit us ... a fix for those who've been unable to send or reply to email via their phone. This applies to RoadRunner, Comcast and potentially other cable ISPs POP3 mail. (RR more so because ICMail was the only workaround we knew of previously.)

*IF* you have an ISP account already configured as POP3 on your phone for the account in question, you will need to delete it and add a new one.

RoadRunner:
With all RoadRunner accounts you are given a specific email domain. Your domain is everything in your email address after the @ sign.
Example: test@wi.rr.com    Domain = wi.rr.com

Here are the settings you'll enter if you had the email address above:
Email address: test@wi.rr.com
password: ******

Incoming mail server: pop-server.XX.rr.com  (Example: pop-server.wi.rr.com -- Make sure you use your specific domain for this and replace the XX.)

Outgoing mail server: smtp.sprintpcs.com
You do not need to change any other settings, leave everything as default.

Comcast:
Let's say your email address is test@comcast.net. You would enter these settings:

Email address: test@comcast.net
password: ******

Incoming mail server: mail.comcast.net
You do not need to change any other settings, leave everything as default (verify it says Port 110, and SSL is turned OFF).

Outgoing mail server: smtp.comcast.net
Port: 587
Use SMTP Auth: should be turned ON
 * Note that the username and password are the same for the SMTP server as it is for the POP3 server/your original account information.

ALTERNATE outgoing mail server if the previous does not work for you...
Outgoing mail server: smtp.sprintpcs.com
You do not need to change any other settings, leave everything as default.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For non RR or Comcast POP3 accounts, you can follow the examples above and supplying your individual email and password info. You can use the smtp.sprintpcs.com outgoing mail server info.

(NOTE: It had been reported that SprintPCS mail was going away -- this is the PERSONAL mail that will be discontinued, NOT the server referenced above, so no need to worry.)

What are the details on your configuration?

1) What email provider are you trying to configure on the device?
2) What is the imcoming server that you are using?
3) Have you ever got it to work and it broke recently or has it always thrown s7118?

Hey bdroad,

To answer your questions:

1.  I am with TimeWarner - RoadRunner
2.  The incoming server I am using is "pop-server.satx.rr.com"
3.  When I first got my phone back in June I was able to use my roadrunner account but since then I haven't been able to use any pop3 accounts I've created just Yahoo, Gmail, and Hotmail

I've been unable to get this to work on my wife's Instinct. The email client is a client from hell. It should work fine with Roadrunner (our local roadrunner does not require SSL, just smtp authentication to send). I've tried using sprint's smtp server, but I SWEAR it's requiring authentication as I get the password prompt when I attempt to send mail.

The worst part about this is it WORKS FINE from my daughter's Instinct (same rev on EVERYTHING, I checked). Is there a way to completely  reset the mail client or do I have to completely erase the damn phone?

This should be stupid easy, but I'm very frustrated at this point (Note - I'm a network engineer. I live and breath this crap every day, but I'm pretty frustrated with this phone. This works very slick and easy with my sprint HTC Touch Diamond)

Any suggestions?
Thanks

Sorry to hear about your frustration with Road Runner. The issue you are having has nothing to do with the email client as it works with thousands of road runner accounts. Also the HTC diamond is the same exact email client, just on a different device.

If you want to supply me with your wifes road runner email address in a private message I will remove the Sprint Mobile Email account from the database and have you set it back up on the device but use sprints outgoing mail server with auth and SSL turned OFF.

I'm sure you will be fine after this change as been made. Also, I realize you have done this before, but just follow my directions and we will have you up and running.

Thanks

I am not able to send email from my instinct.  I have entered the Time Warner out server and I have entered the sprintpcs server to send messages.  The time warner server errors says that I cannot be connected to the server and the sprintpcs server says that I must have changed my pop password and I need to enter it again.  I enter it again but emails still are not sent out.  I have called instinct help and time warner help several times.  This should be very simple, but it isn't.  Please help.

I finally figured it out.  I downloaded the latest email upgrade, then the Spintpcs outgoing server worked.

Good Afternoon all. I have the same issue w/ RR telling me it seems as though my password has changed and prompts me to enter it again. I do and nothing happens and then my auto-receive does not work. I have tried the steps metioned above to no avail. It has never worked since I got the phone in Septemeber. My wife has the same issue on her Instinct. My work e-mail works flawlessly it is just my personal e-mail I having the trouble with. The settings I am using are:

incoming server: pop-server.cfl.rr.com
e-mail: myemailaddress@cfl.rr.com (not actual)
password: myemailpassword (not actual)
outgoing server: smtp.sprintpcs.com

I'm having this same issue on my wife's phone and it's driving me nuts. I've deleted the account and re-created it with bdroad's settings 4 times tonight and still can't send email. It receives fine the 1st time, but nothing sends and nothing downloads subsequent times, presumably because the Send failed.

Wife's phone has Sprint Mobile Email, Version: 6.9.3.377. What version of email client do you now have?

Anyone else have suggestions?

thanks,

Kryix

Basically what happens to you is this:

1) You setup your account and it pulls down your latest 25 emails fine.
2) You try to send a message which fails.
3) The failed email is stuck in your outbox.
4) Everytime you try to sync it now fails because it tries to send the email stuck in your outbox before it does anything else. Since you can't send (for whatever reason), you will never be able to use the program until that email is deleted out of your outbox or if you fix the issue with sending.

Private message me the email address that you are trying to setup.

Well my road runner account was working sweet as could be up till friday evening and now it no longer works at all, I have tried every single post on here and it still doesnt work. i WILL NOT SETTLE FOR THE WORK AROUND OPTIONS. i didnt need them before and it worked great. and i have this as a relief so far.

"Hi xxxx,
What are the email addresses for the accounts that you are having issues setting up? We are currently working the on the server busy error that you received on the device as we speak and it would be worth trying to setup the account again later in the day.

The default ports that are written in for you are good and should be left alone. Just make sure your outgoing server is smtp.sprintpcs.com for road runner accounts and be sure to leave authentication unchecked. After you send me the email address I will make a change and our side and have you try again.

Thanks,
Larry
