Found this......

"depends if you are just accessing the web through the
phone, or if the phone is tethered to your laptop.

Regarding just through the phone, does Comcast offer a web based email
interface, like Earthlink.com or Sprintpcs.com? If it does, you should be
able to view them, by plugging in your user name and password. If they don't
offer a web based email client, then no ... you probably won't be able to.

If you are using the phone tethered to a laptop, you probably can. If you
can't, there is one sure way you can view your Comcast email, and that's to
do email forwarding from your Comcast inbox to your sprintpcs.com email
address.

I have no idea what you're trying to say, but my Comcast email goes to my instinct no problem.

Incoming mail server: mail.comcast.net
Outgoing mail server: smtp.comcast.net

Fill in user name, password and email address and you're good to go.  Works great for me.

That link you reference is over 4 years old, not a good source.

I posted this in another thread. This is a step by step for setting up your Instinct to access Comcast email.

  • Add new email account
  • Select More-> Other POP
  • Email: yourname@comcast.net / Password: captainobvious (aka your mail password)
  • Incoming Mail Server: mail.comcast.net / Port Address: 110 / Use SSL: Off / Account name: yourname (if your email addy is helpmyinstinctemail@comcast.net, your account name is helpmyinstinctemail)
  • Outgoing mail server: smtp.comcast.net / Port Address: 587 / Use SSL: Off / Use SMTP Auth: On
  • Please enter a name for this account: Comcast email

When you hit "Next" again, this will download the most recent 25 mails from your comcast inbox, telling you that it successfully logged into the incoming mail server. If not, then you prolly muffed something in the incoming settings (username or password are biggies). The outgoing smtp port MUST be 587 or you will never be able to send mail from your phone.

These settings WILL work anywhere in the nation unless there is an outside reason for them not working, ie a bad phone or network error (this is still the Internet and it is never always perfect). And there is one more tip I can add: update your data profile by going to Main -> Settings -> General. I was unable to access movie information earlier today. After repeated attempts, though there were no changes to my plan or phone, I updated my data profile on a lark. After doing so, movie info was immediately availible with no problem.

P.S.
Comcast does not have web based email... Kinda. It is a java enhanced web page. I haven't tried it on my Instinct since the email client built in works fine for me. But the login address is: http://redir.comcast.net:80/redirect/webmail dunno how well the browser will handle it.

I can receive email just fine from Comcast, but like many others I can't send.  I've tried multiple settings including these.

I left my instinct at it's default settings other then Incoming and Outgoing server and my mail comes and goes no problem.

Im incoming port address is the same 110, but my outgoing is 25, which was the default already on the phone, I also have SMTP Auth "off".

I'd had 2 instincts (first one had a problem) and both sent and received comcast email no problem.
