This thread is crazy...alot of wannabe techies with theories that just aren't true.

I've been getting  and sending Comcast email on my phones for several years, first my Treo 700p, never a problem, now I get it on my Instinct, no problem...see my post on the comcast thread in this forum for details how..

Email Issues.........
Hang in there.....I had my phone one day and went back to my palm due to not being able to get work emails. Well after reading post here I called them back on the 4th and turned on my phone again........
Well 3 hours later i have work emails on my phone.
Now the first Sprint guy I talked to told my my Sprint password and my work email has to be the same.....
I bailed on this guy! Grin The Next Sprint guy told me that the first guy was wrong..... This guy told me I had to have a password with 6 numbers in it......Well we only use 4 number......So I spent the next hour get with the owner to get my password to 6 numbers.........The next Sprint guy told me no that was wrong!!!!!.......Well as most I was getting a little upset....... Cry  But he had the fix......He told me he goes by the book where some of the other people shot from the hip......After 45 min with this guy.......He told me the only thing i could do is get another email and forward my emails to it.......Sorry this does not work for me.......So the next guy......I wish I could get his personal number!!!!!
He was the first one said hold on sir I am going to get a phone and walk thu this with you.........
We worked togther and in 30 min I had a work email on my phone!!!!!!
All I can tell you it is set up the same way as my Palm but for 2 things......
1) trun off the SSL on the second screen
2) use name is your whole email address.
This is a POP acount.
All I can say is hang in there when calling Sprint!!!!!....If you don't like your answer hang up and call again.

SPrint.......I sure hope your guys read this.......Now keep in mind how much money you guys are throw away Cheesy

If we could get things done with one call it would save you guys money and then you could lower your rates,,,,,,,

Has anyone with COX as the ISP set up their email on the Instinct?

Yes, but I can only receive emails and cannot send.  I have tried smtp out at both 25 and 2525 and still get the same stupid message "Unable to connect to the server.  Please check your connection and try again. (S7122)"   On my Sprint Mogul phone I had to set my SMTP to my GoDaddy web mail account because I couldn't send anything out through cox.net.  Unfortunately, as everyone else is complaining too, you cannot have a different outbound server like you can on the Mogul.  What the hell was Sprint thinking??!!

I'm done with this phone, especially since PDFs cannot be viewed.  I'm still within my 30 days so both my husband and I will be returning these phones tomorrow!!

Thanks Spunky. What I had to do was create a GMAIL account and set the rule in outlook to forward all my incoming emails to it.  This is the only way I can get my email, but to respond, I have to use the gmail account or the pcs account.  Its so f**king annoying!!!  Huh? I hope they fix this quick if comcast and roadrunner can be set up why cant COX?

RoadRunner can only be set up to receive, not to reply. Glass half empty/half full situation.

The problem I am having is that when I first set up the email it will receive my messages.  After that everytime I try to connect i get the unable to connect error.  I tried to delete my account from the phone and re enter it and I get the same thing. Receives the 1st time then cant connect.  Any ideas.

My Email works, but if I try and send somthing WITH AUTH set on via outgoing.verizon.net the e-mail never sends.  And then I can no longer recieve nor operate the verizon account on the phone.  The only way to get it to work again is to reset the e-mail all together by deleteing the account.  I have tried removing the sending email from the outbox and still nothing.

Anyone got any ideas?

<<<<<Unfortunately folks, it looks like Sprint planned it this way.  Why else would they have the Desktop Connector software with POP\SMTP settings?  This is especially frustrating for those of us coming from devices like Touch, Mogul, Palm, etc. where you basically have an email client with full configuration.  I love the instinct for its simplicity and style which is exactly why my Touch is on eBay right now.  Unfortunately, those of us wanting just a bit more control of the email functions suffer.

So in review:

- Most ISPs like cable, DSL don't allow SMTP access off of their network (i.e. your phone on Sprint's network)
- Instinct doesn't allow separate POP and SMTP configuration for a single email account (so you can't send directly from your phone through your ISP account)>>>>>>>>>>>>>

So are you saying that the Instinct is not able to do Verizon e-mail?

Like Ringmaster here is some detailed clarification on some of the mail accounts in question email accounts in question....

-Comcast: Send/Receive just fine using the Comcast out going and incoming servers.
-RoadRunner: Receive works fine. Sending NO GO....
Reason: RoadRunner has locked downt their relay system for SMTP. Unless you are orginating from an IP on their network you will not be able to send any messages to their SMTP Server.
- Bell South: Same as RoadRunner

The issue with the Instinct and not being able to change the out going Mail Server Login info has been escalated to the developers that are incharge of the Instinct mail system at this time. No ETA as to when/if the developers are going to be releasing any new updates for the Sprint Mobile Email Application on the device.

The quote about road runner simply is not true. Unless you are suggesting that at the very momeont I switched from my Moto Q to my instinct that road runner switched their SMTP server protocals. All I can say is that the Q sent and recieved emaisl just fine through road runner why cant the Q.
