Thanks for looking at that -- I didn't have anything else to compare it to but it was evident now that we're missing options.

My Instinct won't receive new email unless I delete the account and create a new one.  Then it will go out and download the new messages.  When I do a refresh, I get an error message it can't connect.  I am trying to be patient with this problem but hope someone from Sprint sees our problem and creates a fix very very soon.  I am beginning to wonder if anyone at Sprint/Samsung tested creating a POP 3 account on the Instinct before the release to know if the protocol would work.  Are any of you receiving new email messages automatically?  If you are, does the email icon on the main page show any indication a new message has been received?  Thanks.

Are you able to reply to or send outgoing messages from that account? That seems to be where others of us are stuck. We receive mail just fine but can't get anything back out.

New issue.....I am not receiving new messages from RR.  If I delete the POP 3 account and create a new one, all messages download from RR.  Are you receiving new messages after the account is setup?  Again, I am in a password loop.  Checked with RR and my settings/password are correct.

Mine RR pulls email OK. And I do have it set to auto-receive. I don't have the SSL turned on for incoming mail server, and that's the only setting other than the server name and the port address.

I think there's a little bit of a lag and waited for 2 tests I'd sent to show up, so I hit refresh and it pulled them in right away.

some are having trouble because the servers are backed up. i talked with tech support and they said to give it 48 hrs so the servers can bounce back from being taxed. this is also affecting the desktop sync

for your sprint pcs email use the following settings:

use POP or IMAP.... and here are the settings

The following are the POP, SMTP, and IMAP server addresses you will need for Sprint PCS Mail:
pop.sprintpcs.com
smtp.sprintpcs.com
imap.sprintpcs.com

I posted this in tips and tricks the other day after figuring it out Smiley

Hey Willow, are you setting up any POP accounts (not the pre-built pipes ... like comcast, verizon, rr) and successfully able to send or reply to a message? That's where RR seems to be sticking for a couple of us right now. I'm trying to see if I can narrow down the specifics.

I used both the smtp-server and smtp.sprintpcs server names in previous outgoing mailerver attempts and neither would let me reply to messages.  I've deleted and reloaded my email account at least 6-7 times and setup again using different scenarios.  I looked at my Mogul settings to see if anything is missing on the Instinct and there are missing functions.  Here's a list of the setup options for my Mogul:

Mogul setup:  (order of listing on phone)
Your name:
Account display name:
Incoming mail server:
Account type:
User name:
Password:
Save Password check box:  (Missing)
Outgoing mail (SMTP) mail server:
Requires authentications check box:  checked (select ON for the Instinct)
Outgoing server login:  (Missing) would use Sprint user name
Password:  (Missing) would use Sprint password
Save password box:  (MIssing) would check

It is obvious there are missing fields to make Instinct POP 3 email function properly.  Otherwise, what is the good of having POP 3 email on the Instinct if you can't reply to messages?  At this time, looks like POP 3 email is read-only.  Hopefully Sprint can do a firmware update to correct this as soon as possible.

Yes, Surprising that this wasn't added.  You cannot specify the login/password for a different Outgoing mail server.  For example, on my prior HTC Touch, I used gmail for the outgoing server and I could easily receive/send my Roadrunner mail (with smtp-server.cinci.rr.com as my incoming).  Now I can't even configure it properly on the Instinct.

I havent gotten around to it, but I do have a couple of email addresses from my personal websites that i will be forwarding to my phone... i will go ahead and set one of those up tonight and see if i have any issues.  i typically just use webmail for them not outlook, so i dont know what issues i will come across...

as for roadrunner, comcast etc, i dont use emails from my isp, so i dont know what could be the issue there other than the possibility that they wont allow their customer email accounts to be directly accessed from some other isp in this case sprint....

if that is the case... see if you can forward those isp email accounts to a new gmail account set up for it...then set that gmail account up on the phone....and that should work easily Wink

Yeah, the pre-built pipes are fine when you reply ... which leads me to believe that they are already set up to either send via smtp.sprintpcs.com OR the pipe folks are OK with external access of the servers for sending. Replies can be accomplished from the POP3's webmail account once you log in, so it's at least possible that way, it's just a different/extra step. It's something that can be easily remedied with an update to the Sprint Mobile Mail feature (they just need to give us an option on the outgoing mail settings screen to enter a diff username/pass than what's used for the incoming).

I am not a programmer but are the outgoing server login and password fields in the Mogul only needed for Windows Mobile?  Or are the outgoing server login/password fields needed on the Instinct too?  I remember a long time ago I was setting up email on a friend's Mogul who also uses RR.  We couldn't get her RR to send messages and found out we had to enter her Sprint PCS name/password in the outgoing server login/password fields.  It worked fine after that.  I am thinking we can't reply/send from our RR messages because these fields are missing.  Also, under incoming mail server, the "save password" box is missing and should have one.  Because there aren't any save password checkboxes in mail setup, that might be why I am constantly asked to re-enter my password. I wonder why Sprint/Samsung left out so much detail with setting up a POP 3 account?

Hi - I was able to receive my e-mails from my comcast account for one day!  Nothing has come down since (I believe it was because I was trying to send back replies) and now everytime I try to set up (after deleting the account) I get a message that says I need to check my username and password (which hasn't changed) S7118).

Has anyone had this problem and corrected it?  thanks, in advance.
