If you want to try to install a completely different firmware/os please let us know if you ever figure it out.

It's highly, highly, HIGHLY unlikely.

technically i guess there is no reason why not. hell you could probably get openMoko running on it if you had the hardware spec's.

http://www.instinct-samsung.com/index.php?topic=1432.0

just a general heads up though, this is the internet most people dont know what they are talkingabout.

For instance, here http://forums.buzzaboutwireless.com/baw/board/message?board.id=Samsung_Instinct&thread.id=175 , somebody thinks you cant port a c program to java. "port" is defined as the process of converting a program from one language to another, some ports are easier than others.

Also Andorid is not a Application as some seem to think. for all intents and purpose's it IS the phone. it directly calls the hardware. it is directly called by the hardware. it is not a jar you can load. it IS the jvm(Dalvik, based on Apache Harmony--mostly a JVM but not certified by SUN so it is not allowed to call itself java, hence Dalvik). if the instinct is a hardware based JVM (they do exist-- recent calculator watches, toasters) replacing with android will be much harder.

It has been loaded onto netbooks though, and iPods will run linux. crazier things have happened.

Well said.

And don't quote me on this, but I do believe the Instinct is a hardware based JVM.

On a side note, I'd like to see an ipod run linux...youtube, here I come.

Thanks, now I'm not going to get ANY work done today...lol.
