I'm getting rid of the Instinct, looking at either the Blackberry Curve, the Omnia,
or the Palm Treo Pro. I've pretty much decided not to go for a Blackberry Storm
right now... maybe in a few years.

I thought that the Omnia was coming out tomorrow, but the Bell Mobility website still
says "coming soon". Looks like it might be a good compromise.. the only thing I'd miss
about the Instinct is the large screen.

supposedly they are also launching a $45 1gb data plan to compete with rogers.

Supposedly it allows tethering.

i cant wait till some one reviews the bell model, im sure it will be a I910 like verizon has, with some lock-outs such as GPS but thats no suprise. i just need to know for sure before i go and buy it and find out they completely locked the registry and 3rd party apps or something quite bell like.

really? where? http://www.bell.ca/shopping/PrsShpWls_RtpDetails.page?wlcs_catalog_category_id=DataRatePlans#1

I see this one as well http://www.bell.ca/shopping/en_CA_NS.Unlimited-Email-and-Internet-Windows-Palm-30/UNPDA.details

But it looks like it is only internet, email, and messenger. not data for other apps.

I could be wrong but "Mobile Connect data usage at additional cost of $15/ MB" kinda scares the bejesus out of me.

Yeah im still kinda on the bus trying to decide whether i want to go for it or not, depending on how badly they break it. I just don't have any faith in bell anymore.

So, I have the Samsung instinct, and while I'm not as upset with it as many of you seem to be. I just got the email from Samsung Canada about the Omnia being here! Looks like a great phone. My question is this:

1. How locked is the phone? My biggest problems with my instinct are similar to many people on these forms. For 1 I have the fact that they want to make me use the MSN program (for an extra $8) for my email when I'm already paying for an unlimited bundle. When I got the phone they told me it was going to be like the BB and other Smart phones. I have gotten around a lot of these problems with help from these forums. (Thanks a lot everyone) So is the new Omnia going to be as full of features as the website says? Or is it going to be watered down and locked? Will I still be able to get my fun 20 pack or will I need a new (more expensive) plan?

2. This one might be a little out of the ball park, but I have had my phone for a good 3 months now or something like that, do you think there is a way that I can complain enough with Bell to get them to upgrade me to the Omnia for little to no more money? I know it’s a stretch but I think I have read here that some people have had luck getting Bell to change their phone because it’s so bad.

Thanks,
TheWhite

Alright I'm answering 3 questions here...

@tdyer - No it's unlimited data, meaning unlimited browsing, email, 3rd party data use, and downloading. Anything that requires internet usage from the phone is unlimited. You're just confused because Roger's charges an arm and a leg for data. Bell kills in the data department, they not only have the fastest internet (and they actually do based on technical specifications), but they also give it for a fairly good price. Roger's can be stupid like that when it comes to plans, they don't offer unlimited anything, they don't give unl txt, no unl data, except for regular phone browser.

@thewhite - 1) I can't say how well the Omnia will perform, but reading the specs it kills the Instinct in every way. but as we found out with the Instinct you can't trust that... If it actually ends up doing what it says it does, then I would undoubtedly spend hundreds of dollars on it. It has such great specs its just so hard to believe it, 5MP camera, WM6, 8GB HD, Expandable memory, all touch-screen. Sounds like a unicorn...which we all know doesn't exist.

2) You would have to try it out for yourself, we all went about it different ways, contacting Executive Office, talking to higher ups...sending emails to Wade. Personally I wouldn't be the guinea pig for that phone, imagine how stupid you would feel if it turns out like the Instinct. Just my thoughts.

Unless tdyler is thinking of the actual data plans like u get with an air card for your laptop, i know out west here the data rates that way are bloody insanely high priced

oh ya, same here.

And also I forgot to say yes White, you're going to have to get a more expensive data plan. Just price it out though, the V+D bundles are pretty good value.

For example for $85 after taxes i get

V
-300 DT min
-unl eve/wknds (9pm)
-Fab 5 Nationwide

D
-500 MB for internet and email
-Unl Messenger

F
-Call ID
-V/M
-Unl Txt Msg
-Media Pack

Frankly I think its a wickid deal.

Thanks Mattman911!

I guess I will have to wait and see how things work out with the Omnia. I wonder who is going to be the guinea pig. After reading these forms over the last few months I can't believe anyone is going to be willing to take this kind of "leap of faith". But I will have to wait and see I guess.

TheWhite

P.S. You guys have been a great help! I'm on board anyway I can to get us justice for these monstrosities!

Yup, I'm also waiting for a Bell Omnia review. Although my Instinct is crappy, I can wait another week or two
before swapping it for an Omnia / Curve / Palm Treo Pro.
