Of course it will be charged!!! You should take note that someone in Alberta got an $80000+ phone bill for tethering.
Possible with the Instinct? Nope (for now anyways).

Does Bell offer PAM as an option on your plan?

I managed to dial and connect to my internet provider (3web). The connection is REALLY slow. I haven't looked into what is going on yet, just sort of a proof of concept.

You'll need to install the samsung drivers on your computer. They come together with the sprint media package and you can download it from sprint. Then you'll need to dial ##usb# and set it to USB. Then press the voice dial key and connect the phone to the computer via a usb cable. Then just dial your internet provider.

There are much more detailed instructions in the other forums available for this if you really want to try.
Note that the instructions that you are likely to find are for sprint phones so dont do everything they are saying. Namely, they (sprint users) need to change a PAM setting in their phone using an unlock code (MSI). I tried all of that but did not find it to work with our bell phones. Don't want to get into details here unless anyone is really interested.

If you dialed into any number other than #777, such as a regular dial up ISP you will be connected at whatever speed their modems are (prob 56k) which will be muuuch slower than dialing into Sprint/Bell's network.

^^ Of course, i realize that. The reason is that i was not aware of PAM offering by Bell. I can try it but i doubt it will work. I did manage to connect to my ISP's dialup service but it was much slower than 56K. Didn't look into the reason yet.

Neat! Did you log in to bell? I didn't even bother trying because i just assumed that bell sucks and it wouldn't work.
Can you post detailed instructions?

1. put your phone visible for 3 min via BlueTooth and sync it with your laptop.
2. Make a new dialup using the standard BT modem that got discovered
3. No Username, No Password, dial #777
4. Cell phone screen will change to a data screen wit rx and tx.
5. I assume it will be billed as DATA but I don't know.

Just checked my unbilled usage and there's mobile internet and data usage, so they are both distinct.

Same here. Browsing via the phone is billed as "Mobile Browser". Using it as POM is "Data" usage. We'll see whether they charge us for this when the bill comes.

My bill isn't due till the 15th. JaCKeL, if you get your bill earlier, can you please let us know whether Bell charged you extra for POM usage?
