Sorry if this has been asked before, Ijtrolled for a while but didn't see the response I hoped for.

I resent the fact Bell expects you to pay $8 a month to use GPS, even when you have unlimited browsing...and GPS signals are FREE...like on my Garmin and Tomtom.

So, I loaded Google maps, but for some reason, (a) it won't "Allow always", rather it asks me "allow for now?" 2-4 times.

(b) Also, when the program finally does launch, it freezes on the software acceptance screen and thd touch pad goes dead. I have to exit the browser altogether to get the touchpad working again.

I have the latest firmware, updated yesterday..and I only bought the phone last Sunday.

Can someone help?

Thanks
Nug

Bell is limiting the access to third party applications but you can bypass this by editing the config file in bitpim. Don't party too soon because even if you do, Bell update didn't include LCDUI so there's no way you will be able to accept the agreement and/or input text in google map.

You need to make sure you download the drivers and even the Sprint media manager with it for Bitpim to work.

For windows the driver is required and Windows will try to auto install when you plug in the phone.

for Mac OS X I was able to install Bitpim without having to do anything else.  What I did try was installing a different version of Bitpim, like a release or two back, and it started working.

I have win-doze 2000 pro, and it doesn't recognize the phone. The Samsung website says there are no drivers available for the SPH-M800 phone. Where do I find them?
Moreover the BitPim I just downloaded the latest version (1.0.7.20081215) and it doesn't even have the Instinct as an option. What version are you guy using?

You have to download the drivers from Sprint and then the phone must be detected with a COM port. Once it is detected and properly set, note the USB port that you used and only use this one for Bitpim.  BTW if you have programs that scans COM port like ActiveSync, hotsync, ... stop them.

Here's the link to get the Sprint drivers : http://www.nextel.com/en/software_downloads/phones/samsung_instinct.shtml (click the blue "more details")

This thread is usefull to understant Bitpim : http://www.instinct-samsung.com/telus/step-by-step-instructions-on-installing-3rd-party-app-for-telus/

Then again this thread about policy : http://www.instinct-samsung.com/telus/step-by-step-instructions-on-installing-3rd-party-app-for-telus/

Or this one : http://www.instinct-samsung.com/third-party-instinct-software/here%27s-how-to-allow-the-instinct-to-use-untrustedunsigned-apps(3rd-party-apps)/?topicseen

Don't copy other provider policy in your phone, just allow what you want under your OWN policy.

Hope it help !
